DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

I applied for one district - Tyne/Wear and have a provisional offer. I think DWP expected one application per person not multiples.
I scored 42/45 does that make me an exceptional candidate? No i was lucky. I got the examiners on a good day good moment perhaps. My score of 42 is probably not as strong as someone who got 30.
I think the DWP should have actively recruited people who have been involved in the private sector in recruitment personally if they wish to actively bring down unemployment. They should also have recruited less people and had higher salaries with targets.
Hanging in there is not advice. Keep going is not advice. Keep applying for jobs is not advice. Remain positive is not advice.
I suspect from the recruitment process many posters who have an offer have nothing productive to offer someone long term unemployed other than verbal motivational techniques.0 -
The fact that I now know that people have gone for multiple positions, and when they refuse, may possibly free one up for me has been quite positive. I feel a lot better now than I did on saturday when I got my "reserve" email. Just have to find out how far down the list I am now.......0

So may I ask what you feel that you have to offer that differs from the other posters on this forum?0 -

I worked for 5 years for a recruitment firm specializing in getting the long term unemployed back into work.
So I spent alot of time with clients rewriting CVs, covering letters, interviewing techniques and developing confidence.
I have seen the long term unemployed on a day to day basis I know what I'm getting, I've heard all the reasons and the ifs and buts but I know what to do to get an effective result.0 -
Can I add a point to everyone getting hot under the collar about the fact that some people are sitting on a number of job offers.
While it would have been ideal if the DWP had not made it a regional exercise (it is all being run from a central point after all) but had made it regional interviews; and say people would then have been offered the nearest available post to their home location (or one previously nominated preferred location) on a take it or leave it basis, this was not possible because DWP is budgeted on a regional basis and just shares a central HR section.
I actually do understand the angst felt by some people who weren't good enough to make their respective merit lists (myself included) but it should be directed at the system and not the people fortunate enough to be choosey. Once a person has all their options laid open to them, they should quickly be offered locations and required to make a choice within say three days or risk being placed on a take it or leave it basis by ESSR. However if previous posts on this subject have been correct, I think that the offers of location will only be made after the lucky multiple offer people have selected their region. Then the offer is on a take it or leave it basis.
One final point! No placements will be made from the reserve list to cover anything other than people withdrawing their applications until everyone offered posts have been allocated an office. This may take four to six weeks depending on how quickly firm location offers are accepted.
I hope that makes an ounce of sense.0 -

Ok then that's fair enough, but I think your comments were a little harsh. I've applied for 2 ditricts, I've been offered and accepted both.
Have spent over 7 years advising an helping the long term unemployed back into work. People with motivational techniques are good at these types of roles as sometime that's all that is needed to help someone move back toward the labour market.
When you say recruitment, do you mean welfare to work? As I don't feel you need recruimet experiance to do the role.
Recruitment firms think more about the outcome and hitting targets rather then the actual clients.0 -

Sam,
As someone who has experience of getting young people trained and into work, I feel qualified to answer your last post. I think it was a wee touch pompous and disrespectful of many people on here who have been seen to have potential to do the job required. If you go into JCP with that attitude made, wanting to move mountains and probably not see the value in the people already in post too, who don't have private experience etc, I suspect you'll find the job a lot less satisfactory than you'd like.
Additionally, as this government seem hell bent on regionalising the pay of Civil Servants (the Civil Service is on strike on May 10 over pensions and pay constraints) and reducing the pay in the North East by between 8% and 12% in the first instance, it is never likely to even consider offering more pay to attract the private sector (whether they’re better is a matter of opinion btw) and is more likely to nationalise the JCP.0 -
Does anyone know what the final number was for the East London vacancies.
It started at 50 then went up to 206, anyone know what it is now?0 -

...and profit...and bonuses...and as an after thought getting some of these people into work.0 -
I heard today that some areas may not end up recruiting at all as their budgets have been cut.
Hopefully it was wide of the mark.0
