  • Hi I've been watching this thread for weeks and I've finally cracked!! I'm glad it's not just me going through this emotional rollercoaster of feelings. I applied for hants and iow area and recieved an email today asking for my location preference ( I took one of these to my interview) so am now wondering if this is a positive or if my originals been misplaced?!! I scored a lot lower than most with an overall score of 31, I'm just hoping the scores down here were lower in general, well good luck everyone and thanks for keeping me sane xx :)

    Sue,

They would not turn you down based on leave taken for such a tragic event. You would be immediately given two weeks paid leave for that and I don't know anyone who wouldn't be on the sick with stress for a period afterwards too. It's to be expected. More likely, if sickness were a factor, they'd check your long term sickness record,. over say three years.

If it's any consolation I joined the Civil Service after 11 years on the sick and directly from being on the sick.

Hope you get what you're after gal

I'm not sure where you get two weeks from - though I'm sure you're correct for the area you work. I don't think that will apply everywhere. I had a fight to take a days special leave for my dads funeral. I would obviously have taken annual leave but I couldn't believe they didn't think it was available to me when they hand it out without question for people to go to sporting events!

Sue - so sorry to hear that. Any employer would understand the reason and they wouldn't hold it against you. Most parts of the civil service are really understanding about awful things like that.
  • Feel really bad for all you guys stuck waiting! Us glasgow people didnt realise how lucky we were when the results came out! I really thought that they would have had all the scores input ready to publish when they got the ok from above. Was really shocked when nothing further was released today.... Hopefully they dont keep you all too much longer!

Hi Clemintine, now you've had your provisional offer email, what happens next? Are they going to ask you which office you would prefer? or will they allocate you an office from your preference form?

They said they are starting pre-recruitment checks and they will be in touch after they are clear they will be back in touch to give me an offer. Alarmingly the preference form wasn't mentioned. I put Glasgow down on that, so hoping they done get back with an offer that is in East Dumbartonshire as that would be an 1.5 hour commute each way. Not the end of the world, but not something I want ideally.

I used to work for them in Glasgow, so ideally would want back into my old office because I still keep in touch with a lot of colleagues, but realistically that's probably not going to happen. Having said that I've been really lucky with the whole process, because I didnt score very highly on the application form, so was lucky to get an interview in the first place! However, I seem to be have been one of the first to receive an offer from this thread, so hoping I'm fairly high up on the list, but then my surname is likely to be one of the first alphabetically so that might of had an impact.

I will keep this thread updated with my progress to give everyone else an indication of how long they are likely to wait in their own application.
  • Also, meant to mention that they stated in the email not to hand in notice to my current employer until the final offer is made. Based on this not expecting a fast turn around.

Same for me as Clementine...I'm waiting on pre-employment checks (but my personal referee still hasn't been contacted). I'm a bit worried though as the 'next steps' form asked for a current employer, previous employer AND personal referee, but then there were only options to input two - so I input previous (where I worked for 14 years and was made redundant in 2011) and personal. I didn't put my current employer as I don't want them contacting them prior to interview in case I then don't get offered a location I can't travel to. I work for a VERY small company and it would be horribly awkward if they knew I had applied for another job. I haven't heard anything yet..so fingers crossed.

They didn't ask me about location preference at interview and when I asked them if they had all my locations down, they said they had no idea where I'd applied to, but not to worry as HR would have the details would be in touch re: location if I was successful.

When I spoke to recruitment on the phone, they advised that the preference list we all completed was irrelevant (it was just an exercise) and that I would be offered whatever was available depending on where I was on the merit list. With a score of 42, I'm hoping I'm somewhere near the top, but who knows. Good luck all...and don't think just because it's the weekend that you won't hear anything, I had my acceptance email on Easter Saturday! x
