Even if I didn't have an option, I would never work there again.
One of the most comical things I came across in my time there was when a guy who didn't get his own way smashed the place up. His punishment...he didn't have to attend his signing-on for a year...just send in postal signings. No requirement to evidence job searching or demonstrate evidence of applying for jobs. His punishment was to be given the easy life just to make things easy for staff who didn't have any power to deal with him in a suitable manner.
Unbelievable.
Every so often we had to have the office fumigated to get rid of flea infestations. I'd get home at night stinking of cannabis, passed on by customers. The G4S security guards were about as useful as a one legged-man in an !!!! kicking competition...I could go on.
I'm telling you all...don't work there. You'll be unhappy, depressed, unmotivated and unfulfilled. I'd rather work in a slaughterhouse than work in a Job Centre.
What a heap of tosh!
This thread has been generally supportive and constructive. It'll take a lot more than a bigoted sh*t for brains like you to come on and dampen the enthusiasm these guys have got for a half decent job. You may have been fortunate to have quality jobs in your time, apart of course from your disastrous job in JCP. However, I’ll bet that wherever you went for a job after JCP (if it wasn’t actually bringing your own bloody fleas into the office on sign on day) the job you so despised was pumped up to the nines on your feeble CV along with the way you handled customers with respect and courtesy... Bo**ocks!
You say you were an EO. If you find it funny that some plonker decides to smash up the office for not getting his own way then I’m sure the bosses in that office didn’t bemoan your well overdue departure. I’m sure the good people on this thread, many of whom, as JCP customers, you besmirch with your cavalier attitude towards them through your derogatory comments will lose no sleep whatsoever if you never appeared on here again taking the mickey out of what they regard as a good step in the right direction.
It’s about time the Spaceman went travelling.

I've worked in a job where I had to stand for 12 hours a day burning my hands making coffee and another where I had to emotionally blackmail pensioners into parting with their money - THAT was soul destroying.
If I'm offered this job I will be ecstatic. It definitely won't be perfect, I know that, but at least I'll have the chance to actually help people in genuine need and get a decent wage. Very few jobs offer that.
hear hear - if we all held out for the perfect job we would never work and you are damn right in your comments - I have been on the other side of that table recently and I am not flea ridden and am desperate to work - as are a lot of people on this forum I would imagine. There will always be a few bad apples. I will be ecstatic to get this job too.0 -

Depends what sort of person you are I guess.
Good point well made.
Some people make their own problems then fail to cope with the fall out, preferring to blame the system for their personally generated inadequacies.0 -

I worked in the court service for 21 years generally dealing with divorce/children act work, and bailiffs and debt. I had everything thrown at me, and even had a 'lady' wish cancer on me. But as with every customer facing role, you have good times and bad times. If you are competent, you just get on with it.
Anyway, I've been offered a job today, and I have said yes, because I want/need it. Shelf stacking on a nightshift, and I'm looking forward to it. What will be will be. Until you've been on the dole, you've no idea how sapping it can be, especially when you've a strong work ethic.0 -
Hi all I just wanted to update the East London applicants, I scored really crap, I received feedback today - interviewed on the 13th March I knew it instantly when I walked into the interview room the lady was very stuck up and made me feel uncomfortable so I lost the plot anyway she told me that I should not to use the same examples as I have given application stage, my competencies were based on my previous job working for the DWP
Sorry to hear that, but it's not over until they actually say it is so try and stay positive. They may keep you on the waiting list and you don't know how everyone else that's applied for E.London has done.
Wishing you the best of luck0 -

Good luck with your new job. I hope you get the job you want very soon.0 -

But you won't be given the chance. Job Centres really have no idea how to help people. There are people who go there in real need...people with mental health issues, learning difficulties, disabilities. Yet none of your training will have anything to do with this. You are not given the extra time needed to help vulnerable people. All you have are targets...how many people you interview...nothing to quantify whether you helped them or not.
The best thing is the 'mystery shopper'...yes, there is one. When they come in, they make themselves known and jump the queue, get seen first and get special treatment...regardless of who else is waiting.
If you want a job helping people, support working, key working...counselling are much more rewarding careers.
Okay, so some are not overjoyed by my comments...but others have come out in agreement.0 -
Well the waiting for my scores is over - I got 32 so hoping that's enough to get me through - time will tell! Good luck to all those still waiting
Hi Holly.
Well done and good luck.
Those results are hopefully good enough to get you through to the end game. I suppose being in London you have excellent transport links which will enable you to go to any number of offices. Is that the case for you?0
