I'm not applying for a DWP job...I used to work there.

Even if I didn't have an option, I would never work there again.

One of the most comical things I came across in my time there was when a guy who didn't get his own way smashed the place up. His punishment...he didn't have to attend his signing-on for a year...just send in postal signings. No requirement to evidence job searching or demonstrate evidence of applying for jobs. His punishment was to be given the easy life just to make things easy for staff who didn't have any power to deal with him in a suitable manner.

    Unbelievable.

Every so often we had to have the office fumigated to get rid of flea infestations. I'd get home at night stinking of cannabis, passed on by customers. The G4S security guards were about as useful as a one legged-man in an !!!! kicking competition...I could go on.

I'm telling you all...don't work there. You'll be unhappy, depressed, unmotivated and unfulfilled. I'd rather work in a slaughterhouse than work in a Job Centre.

Nothing you've described about this job sounds remotely horrific, annoying yes but definitely nowhere near as bad as many many other worse paid jobs with longer hours. Although every office will be different when I went for interview it seemed a great place to work.

I've worked in a job where I had to stand for 12 hours a day burning my hands making coffee and another where I had to emotionally blackmail pensioners into parting with their money - THAT was soul destroying.

If I'm offered this job I will be ecstatic. It definitely won't be perfect, I know that, but at least I'll have the chance to actually help people in genuine need and get a decent wage. Very few jobs offer that.

Well the waiting for my scores is over - I got 32 so hoping that's enough to get me through - time will tell! Good luck to all those still waiting :)

Hi all I just wanted to update the East London applicants, I scored really crap, I received feedback today - interviewed on the 13th March I knew it instantly when I walked into the interview room the lady was very stuck up and made me feel uncomfortable so I lost the plot anyway she told me that I should not to use the same examples as I have given application stage, my competencies were based on my previous job working for the DWP

The retail job is low paid but being second choice for them I wont feel as guilty If (fingers crossed I get the DWP position) I have to leave them after training!

If you currently don't have a job then I think you should take it and if/when the dwp jobs get offered give notice.

If you currently in another job I just hold out.

I know I'd be kicking myself if I didn't get the dwp job or worst 'wait listed' and let this job go in the mean time.

I've known several people who have worked or still work for the job centre and they all enjoy it. The little annoyances are different to other jobs but all jobs have them.

Depends what sort of person you are I guess.
