Had my supermarket interview last night. I only got told about it by phone the day before so spent the day googling. I got asked five competency based questions even though it was quite friendly and informal, but I did better firing them off the top of my head than I did in the DWP interview. Then again, the hardest bit was being sent out to the shop floor with two supervisors to learn a bit of shelf stacking and one of them was awfully patronising, and rather than explaining what was right, took great delight in belitting this obvious office girl and trying to put me in my place. Luckily I've spent 20 odd years dealing with all walks of life and bit back my desire to tell her that her approach to carrying out an interview task needed a lot of work. People in the private sector need to wise up that us public secter workers have a lot of transferrable skills and most of them are to do with dealing with diversity. It has been drummed into us from an early age.

Anyway, the rest of the staff I met were very nice and welcoming and willing to help. I'm going to take it if offered but if this DWP offer comes through I will leave and take it.

I realised my heart lies in customer service, I love it, it's thankless at best, but while the country is in the state it is in we need to preserve something, and that is a polite regard for our fellow men.

Nice to see some brilliant scores coming in, there are some very talanted people on here. But I still effing hate competencies and will never believe they are better than a traditional interview of questions/answers/conversation.

    Again.... good luck all.

has anyone else had problems with interviews at the follwoing times 12-2pm becasue i concerned follwoing some poster saying they were rushed becasue it was close to lunch-time. my interview is at 1.45pm.

    thanks

Mine was near lunchtime and I have to say I did not experience anything like that. My interviewers were very VERY nice, very calming and spent the full time fully engaged with me. I dindnt feel rushed at all :)

    Hi,

Thank you and well done to you, you aced it! You'll be snapped up. In the Afternoon so scores on really quick. Yep was on the 2009 one, how time flies! This time seems more stressful though, although last time I had nothing to base the process on so it could be that.

Time has gone so quick 2009 seems like yesterday, and I agree that this time around has been much more stressful, however I'm loving the super quick feedback on CS! I worked as a FTA for 18 months, contract ended last May and have been on maternity leave since then, so I honestly thought my baby brain would hinder the interview, but obviously not! I can't stop smiling:j

    Interview tomorrow, absolutely bricking it.

Physically can't prepare anymore I don't think, know as much of the framework as I can, and know my examples, plus a few more I can pull out, should I need to.

    Oooosh.

    Good luck Jess!

You have done very well, be proud of yourself! Brilliant you can get back into work straight from maternity into a job you completely fought for! You and the new baby deserve it :)

Well, just got back from my interview in Brum. Have to say that it was OK. They asked me a couple of questions after I'd finished each statement but I can honestly say that I couldn't have done any more - I gave it my best shot!
I know for a fact that I won't score the rows of 8s and 9s that some people on here have been getting, so not too hopeful, but hey ho will have to wait and see if I scrape through....:p

Oh and I wanted to add that everybody else who was being interviewed seemed to be internal candidates - some still had their JCP name badges on.
yeah had my interview in brum today too !!!.yeah i noticed that too,the internal candidates wearing badges!!.my interview felt a bit rushed, ainting expecting any high scores !!

I had my interview on 15/02/2012,was told result letter would be sent through CS jobs week commencing 05/03/2012, have had email on 13/03/2012,to say there has been a problem with the number of band c they need, each area has there own budget for the next tax year,so the vacancy is on hold, not enough funding, rang the helpline no today was told the same, they might not need as many band c grade as previously thought, internal staff might get priorty if there are less vacancies

I know, 2009 really feels like Yesterday, same as you I was a 18 month FTA, I left just before contract ran out as I secured employment elsewhere, was so sad to leave like many of us, shows in how many people have reapplied, you obviously have no baby brain, my youngest is 8 and I still have it :) bit concerned about a later post stating vacancy on hold, hope not or this will feel like deja vu.

After all the waiting my scores were shocking....I'm out the game!! Thank you all for your help, advice and support. Good luck to those still waiting on scores and everyone in the running for a top pick of placement. I've been pretty upset today, but I've no one to blame but myself. I have learned lots, and will be better prepared for future applications of a similar nature.
