Hi thanks for reply. In a nutshell Brum marked me although I had withdrawn from there and after originally getting 5 x 1. This was not my home district. Then BC failed me stating see Birmingham scores. Staffs/Shrop says see BC for feedback but still showing test completed and cov/worcs says application on hold. As I have read the rules just because of a fail in one area doesn't automatically mean a fail in the others I have applied for. I have had no coms from cov/worcs since 21st jan and 30th jan from staffs. So as you can see a bit of a mess not sure what to do next although I am waiting for a reply from a few emails but think I may ring recruitment helpline tomorrow to sort things out one way or the other. (Sorry bit of a coconut shell rather than a hazelnut). Good luck.

    Mommarat,
I've followed your story with a bit of interest and would use your example as a good one for highlighting the shortfalls of the system they have used for this recruitment process.

This is the first time they've used it, which is likely why they've had so many teething problems. That said it has been tested out but not at the volumes generated by this selection process.

The shortfall that I think has caused the most distress is appearing to mark competences at sift with the scores 1,1,1,1,1. It now seems pretty clear that people who get 1,1,1,1,1 are not brain dead, but the district nearest their postcode has not marked the sift before another. This prompts the "non-local" area to use the default setting 1,1,1,1,1 to show that they are passing the responsibility for marking the competencies to your local area.

Some people, on seeing the 1,1,1,1,1 have then withdrawn their applications as they think they've done terribly, when in fact this is so definitely not the case.

If anyone gets asked for feedback from this process I think that should be one of the main issues to be mentioned. Another not so significant matter is the posting of feedback (less significant because you haven’t been misled). Feedback should be posted within a fair period. Maybe all feedback from the sift should have been kept until it was all ready to post. The interview feedback should all be up within 72 hours of the interview. That would be better customer service and a better image for the organisation.

I hope you get a fair appraisal of your competencies Mommarat. I’m sure I saw your scores posted and if I recall correctly, you weren’t happy with them.

    Whatever the case, good luck.

I think it could backfire on the ones wearing their badges they may think it gives them a better chance but it could go against them as it's an external recruitment and the interviewers could go harder on them as they are obvously saying look at me I work for you already kind of showing off. Interviewers are looking for people who cover the comps correctly so I wouldn't let it worry you. I wouldn't dream of wearing my badge to the interview they are just trying to in-nerve the other candidates their comps may be rubbish I'm sure you did very well.

In my district internal candidates were told to wear name badges as it saved problems with security and meant they did not have to be escorted through the offices.
Makes no difference to the panel as when the days interviews are printed those internal candidates are instantly identifiable as they have staff numbers recorded.
Panels meet each morning to look at days candidates and swap any they feel it is inappropriate for them to interview.

    Soemthing I found out today.

I work in a govt dept, not DWP, and our accepted 'service level' for external recruitment is 25 working days from initial date advert posted to first person placed on merit list. That's 5 weeks.

I can't imagine that the DWP's process would be too far removed (most other things aren't) so for INTERNAL applicants (mommarat, I'm looking at you here) you may well be able to blag a formal complaint based on the 'service level' of HR... they're WELL over 5 weeks atm.

As your interview is over you should not let it worry you. Your time for worrying has past.

Are you coming at this from an employed position or looking for work? I've come at it looking for a promotion and as there are so many new starters hoping that by working hard there may be further opportunities in the next few years.

Also, do let the others waiting for interview know whether or not you felt the questions were straight forward and based on the competencies or weird mix ups of sub headings, which is worrying many. You might manage to add support to previous answers, one way or the other.

Some places are looking for scores around 30+ for offers, so you should have an idea once you get your score how close yo are to gettging through the door...or the trapdoor (oops, there I go worrying you again). As I say mine were posted within 20 hours.

Good luck Maid Marion:A (lucky angel)
    HAHA Maid Marion it is!
And thanks for my lucky angel...I think I need it!
I'm currently employed and it would also be a promotion for me..maybe thats why I'm putting so much pressure on myself!
I don't have much experience of interviews either so that doesn't help lol

No scores put up today so the waiting continues...

no but they will assess your communication as well so it's best not to have reams of notes.
