DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

If you look back over this thread for the past few pages you will see many people have had interviews and have posted their experiences. Just scroll back and check them out.
In a nutshell it appears that that the 5 competencies as listed in the application form will be the focus of the interview with questions coming from the bullet points under the competencies as listed in the documentation we all had access to to write our competencies. No one knows the exact questions you may be asked - you just need to know your competencies back to front as well as maybe a second example for each if you can.
My interview is tomorrow and I don't think I can do anymore except have a restful evening and be there on time tomorrow.
Good luck for yours whenever it is.
I wish you the best(est) of luck!0 -
I have an interview with DWP, London for EO position. Please I would like to know if anybody have gone for the interview yet and any chance to advice me how the interview looks like.
What Questions do they ask?
Please HELP!!!
You posted exactly the same question above and received responses.
It really doesn't bode well for you that you have to ask again and cannot see the earlier responses. Seriously, read the thread, a lot of people have spent a lot of time trying to help on here and there is no need to continually duplicate information.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi all.
I'm just after some advice from people that have had their interviews already or have knowledge of the interview assessment process. I had an interview for Staff and Shrops last Thurs, the interview lasted only 22 minutes and I was only asked one question about one of my comeptencies- is this normal? I tried to ensure i had covered all sub headings for each competency within my answers so im assuming this is the reason why no follow up questions were asked. Could I have just missed the point all together? I'm hoping they wouldve asked me for a different example if that was just the case. I gave completely different competency examples in my interview to my application form and also had an additional one for each competency. Do they look at your application form whilst reviewing the interview? I think im just worrying too much, will feel better once the scores are published. Could anyone interviewed for staff and shrop tell me how long they waited for interview scores to go online?
Thanks in advance0 -

So you were only asked about one of your competencies - not all 5? If so that doesn't sound right. Which location was that is as I have my interview this afternoon in Stafford and I must admit that worries me now.
Also Staffs/Shrops only started interviewing last Thursday so not sure how long it takes to post the results.0 -

i'm still on reviewing application for shrops/staffs so far today although not hopeful after everything else that's gone on I'm hopeing they are holding back on rejection email till others have been seen. Hope it all goes well for your interview. Someone in my office who was rejected by BC had pass scores for S/S but no int yet so a matter of wait and see I think. I'm sure you will do really well.0 -
Hi,
I had my interview saturday afternoon for North London. There were quite a few people there, and were running about 5 interviews at a time. There seemed to be a few no-shows as well.
Interview was straightforward and as described. However - they do have your previous competencies! They will have read them as they made comment on them during the interview. One of my interviewers would be at the office I hope to work at, and seemed friendly enough.
I also noticed that there were DWP staff badges worn by some applicants - it turns out North London had no internal appointments and all staff had to apply externally - although by wearing your staff badge it is pretty obvious you are current staff.0 -

I had an interview on Friday in Nottingham and my interviewers specifically advised me that they have no idea of my previous competencies, application or sift scores. So it seems it varies from region to region.
There was one lady interviewing whom was aready DWP staff but wanted a transfer and she has had to apply externally to just get a transfer which seems ridiculous to me.
My own interview didn't go that well, i was stupidly nervous and had to keep getting them to repeat the question as I felt I was just waffling. So cross with myself as during the last process I got through no problem at the top of the merit list.
Oh well what will be will be...0 -

I think it could backfire on the ones wearing their badges they may think it gives them a better chance but it could go against them as it's an external recruitment and the interviewers could go harder on them as they are obvously saying look at me I work for you already kind of showing off. Interviewers are looking for people who cover the comps correctly so I wouldn't let it worry you. I wouldn't dream of wearing my badge to the interview they are just trying to in-nerve the other candidates their comps may be rubbish I'm sure you did very well.0 -
for those you went to the interview do you lot wear a full suit or just a shirt and tie. thanks0

I wore suit and tie. Other candidates seemed to vary between shirt and tie, or jacket and trousers rather than suit. I also noticed that younger (around mid 20's) candidates were less formally dressed and tended towards shirt and tie.
FWIW my interviewer wore a suit, and a lot of the staff doing the admin/form acceptance wore suits.it could go against them as it's an external recruitment and the interviewers could go harder on them as they are obvously saying look at me I work for you already kind of showing off.
I'm not worried - scores will be what they are and people allotted as business need arises. It's like years ago when there was a rumor that if you filled in the space in the capital A at the top of certain police recruitment forms you would get it as it indicated you were a FreemasonTotal rubbish, but knowing that there has been no internal recruitment will cause people to think of ways to "boost" themself by any perceived advantage.
In all, I'm happy with my completely new competencies, and turned it back on them by stating, "I stand by my previous competencies and we can take them as read to support and supplement my answers here today if necessary"I know it's wordy, but as i referred to the original competencies myself in passing, they had read them, and hopefully will count towards the interview score - if not, I'm still happy.
Now to write a 2000 word supporting statement for a position with the Department of Justice!0
