    Well I've had one interview this week and it was from a region that is asking pretty left field questions. For example questions were so vague they were like this;

Can you give me an example of when compliance hindered your resources and finances to implement a project.
Can you give an example of how you dealt with leading a group of people that were at the company longer than you. (leading)
Can you give an example of how you overcame a customer need with limited resources. (customer service)
Can you give an example of how you developed within a diverse group of people across all backgrounds. (building)

I spoke to a friend who works at the job centre and this is because the success rate is as high as 1/10 in some offices due to applicants applying ofr certain offices.

I myself have my 2nd interview tomorrow in London. Getting up at 5am driving to london for 9.15am appointment. No notes no scriptd answers. Just me and what i have done. I will be myself again. listen to the question. be honest remember an experience and just talk about it. 5 questions 5 different jobs.

I can believe that, I used to work for JCP, and unfortunately in my office, there where those who were very disrespecting of security, with a touch of 'I'm better than you' added to the mix - it's a shame really - mind you - when staff wound up customers and hit those damn panic alarms - they were sure grateful for security presence then!

It's not as though you're taking their job John.

Also, you don't know until you ask. Just make sure you don't ask the ones who you think will react that way. Ask the office manager if s/he can suggest someone skilled in the process that may be willing to help. If s/he suggests someone it could be a development opportunity for them in coaching, influencing and guiding.

Read stage two of the competencies and pick out the key words and phrases and try and incorporate that ethos within your example.

Word for word doesn’t always work…use your own interpretation if necessary. Do take notes. Do follow “STAR”.

You have one crack…make it count.

If you don’t you’ll be back on door duty for while yet.

What area are you in and what were your sift scores for all competencies, John?

I'm confused - are you saying you have had 2 seperate interviews in 2 different areas for this position? I know I had 2 different areas offer me an interview but I had to choose which one to have it in as they were very specific about only having one interview - stating that the results would be given to the other areas I have applied to. How have you managed to get round that issue?

I will just add that I really don't think those questions are too left field. I could certainly adapt my competencies to them fairly easily and still retain the core of the competency.

I'm sure they were. That's what John needs to play on. Ask those who's !!! he's saved.

Sadly there are too many pretentious and patronising gits around the CS and they need to be weeded out.

That said, you’ll find them in all walks of life.

They're good scores John. You shouldn't be flapping about this example. As long as you get similar scores at interview and avoid the dreaded 3 or less, you'll be fine. Talking about it is far easier than squeezing it out in 200 words.

    As Curt Cobain once said:

Trying to be someone you're not is a waste of the person you are.

Maybe a message there for a few people to consider this week ahead

Well there's your diversity angle sorted. Talk about how you treat the people in your office with respect and politeness despite a number of them being rude to you. Say how you take a deep breath and respond to them with the information they require and always give them the assistance they need.

I must say, I've been 'signing on' since Jan and have never seen nothing but a good friendly relationship between the staff and security at my local office. Maybe it's just a friendlier environment to the one you work in.

That is if indeed you do actually work in one.... I'm still pretty suspicious of you because you've not taken onboard any of the assistance you've been offered on here, but not in a way it would stop me offering you nothing other than polite and genuine help. If you're getting a kick out of being a troll, then most on here have nothing to worry about, at least they weren't rude to you.

    Best of luck either way.
