Goldilocks didn't you say that you got 74% so it's silly that they making you do a re-test just phone the dwp and tell them that you got an email but you already got 74%...

As for the structure of the process, they should have asked applicants to submit just the competencies 1st then if you was successful with these then you should be invited to the numerical/reasoning tests... That's how the graduate schemes work ne way

With 50,000 applicants that would have taken 1 person approximately 232 weeks to complete the sifting process, assuming that's all they did and didn't have a cup of tea while doing the sifting.

Of course with 100 people staff they would have been able to do this in 2 and 1/2 weeks.

This is why they use the test to reduce the number of applicants they need to sift.

Its exactly the same as the fast stream programme for graduates (but the test is considerably harder) who wish to join the civil service.

In 2009 you applied, they sifted applications out, then you would likely sit a paper test (a limited number of exercises used electronic ones) and approximately 70% of people would fail the test. Pass the test and you were almost guarranteed to get an interview (although in at least one occasion they raised the pass mark).

Its down to the Cost:Benefit ratio
  • When I applied in 2009 there was an online competency test (multiple choice) then if you passed that you were invited to take a numerical and literacy test on paper at a local centre (mine was a hotel) I was shocked by the amount of applicants that failed the numeracy and literacy tests...

The difference is, Manpower were doing the recruitment then.

If you passed the tests you were then invited to a competency based interview and put on a list in merit order of the score you achieved in the interview. It was a long process, I applied in the August and was in a job mid November and I was 3rd on the list! Some others waited far longer to be placed.
  • the same.

have you guys for the link/e-mail for the working locations form. i'm still waiting thanks.

    Mine says
    Applicant Status: Situation Test complete
You have completed the Situation Test.

We are reviewing your results and your application will progressed shortly.

IMPORTANT: Please remember to return regularly to check the status of your application or check your e-mail inbox.

I phoned the helpline this morning and the guy sounded quite surprised that I hadn't had an email. However, he said that due to the large number of applications and technical glitches (eg attaching the forms to emails) they were behind on sending the working location forms out. Told me to wait a couple of days and if I hadn't had the email then to email Workforce - though he dud say that there was no guarantee of a reply!

To be honest the whole system is flawed and prevents honest people from even reaching the interview stage. Yes I know the reasons behind the particular way that its conducted, but still.

Honestly means nothing in the hunt for a job. I know someone who got their family to register several applications and sat the test 5 or 6 times writing their answers down each time, then they compared answers and scores till they hit 24/24 and 278/336. Their competency answers were written out for them by a senior civil servant.

I am horrified by that - especially that a senior civil servant would write their competency statements for them (I spent days sorting mine out.) I'd be willing to take a paper test because I know that I got my very respectable score honestly.

Alas it appears it's not unusual from people that should know better
