Just because the test says you have 2.5 hours to complete does not mean it is going to take 2.5 hours.
The original one was 70 min and I have completed it is 34 min - which probably explains my low score though... BUT it was around 1 am too0 -

Would hope they see my EO expereince on my application during the sift and it gains a few extra credits.
Well they did ask for previous staff number didn't they. They wouldn't do that for no reason would they?0 -
Goldi, am I correct in thinking that you said you were dyslexic? Put that together with the issues you had running it; that would explain the 2nd attempt & perhaps that would explain the extra time? Unless I'm getting you mixed up with someone else0

Its the same test and only 75 minutes to complete it in.
Theres a serious problem with this online testing anyways, so many ways to cheat the system.
I can only hope that theres a paper test prior to interview so that those who have cheated will be found out.0 -

Hopefully those that cheated had rubbish competencies?
I'd be surprised if a paper based exercise was introduced; the whole point of CSR (Civil Service Resourcing as part of Next Generation HR) was to introduce a CS wide sole recruiting portal - I quoteAll vacancies across government can now be found in one place – Civil Service Jobs. Implemented by Civil Service Resourcing, Civil Service Jobs was launched successfully on 30 September. Civil Service Jobs provides a more streamlined service for both internal and external applicants looking for government vacancies, as well as offering current civil servants easier access to opportunities for career progression. Departments also benefit by being able to access management information to support their resourcing decisions. The Civil Service Jobs system notifies surplus staff of any job that fits their profile criteria, helping to facilitate their redeployment within the Civil Service.
Civil Service Jobs also offers departments a full end-to-end on-line vacancy filling system for their internal, surplus/redeployment, cross-government and external vacancies. Civil Service Resourcing is working with a number of departments that have already signed up for this further service, and are currently developing implementation schedules. The roll out of this e-recruitment system across the Civil Service will continue into 2013, as other departments select to join the service.
Assessment Services
Civil Service Resourcing is developing a range of assessment services, including an On-Line Sift Tool for all grades between AO and Grade7. An SCS assessment service is already in place. Other services are presently being piloted and early indicators already show that a standardised approach to Assessment will produce significant cost savings.
(there was quite frankly a ridiculous amount of systems out there previously). I'm not sure if the paper based versions even exist anymore; certainly for instance within the MOD who have been using CSR for a couple of years now there are no more assesment centres; it's all done via the WCN CS jobs portal. Introducing paper based tests again would seem like a giant step backwards!
However, it appears the current system is obviously open to abuse0 -

Agreed. Although the cheaters have denied some of the honest ones a chance of even getting an interview!
The last time I completed this test back in 2009 http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=22256321&postcount=1331 there was no paper test at the interviews.0 -
If you had to cheat at the test then who's to say you would have bothered trying to write strong competencies
.
Noone knew what the test would entail until AFTER they had submitted their competencies and read the practice questions and answers. So the cheaters would've had time to 'prepare' for the test.0 -
To be honest the whole system is flawed and prevents honest people from even reaching the interview stage. Yes I know the reasons behind the particular way that its conducted, but still.
Honestly means nothing in the hunt for a job. I know someone who got their family to register several applications and sat the test 5 or 6 times writing their answers down each time, then they compared answers and scores till they hit 24/24 and 278/336. Their competency answers were written out for them by a senior civil servant. Now i know for a fact that if they had to undertake another test not in the self trusting conditions of an online test they would score terribly. Apart from ringing up and giving information regarding what they did,(not that i would do that as there a dear friend and though i dont agree with it i do understand why they did this) beyond that what more can you do. Simply because
the system is structured badly, it leaves it self open to cheating.
Theyve more than likely denied my wife and I a chance at progressing, but like I say the old saying that cheats never proper is bull!0 -

What I meant was if you planned to cheat on the test then I would think you would be less likely to spend time on your competency examples. As you have to submit them before taking the test they don't have the opportunity to go back and make them stronger.
So I would assume that even if you cheated then your laziness would probably go against you.
Generally speaking that is.0
