    East Scotland .

Yet you applied to North London - that is one heck of a commute :D. I assume you were considering moving if you got the opportunity.

North London, there is something going on? Just now i received poor competency scores, feedback littered with grammar and spelling mistakes and rejection mail. Thanks goodness it was not my home district, same competencies got 77754 in home district ,and i got 83% . Fishy fishy north London. Just wondering who they wanted to accommodate by lowering their online test so low, that they had not enough time to read through the competencies on time.

I applied on last day and my competencies were marked early on, just had to wait a good while for interview invite. I applied to East and North London, it was East London who haven't marked competencies and lowered the pass mark for online test. Good luck with your other apps. :)

Thanks for the advice, and I hope you get good feedback sounds as if you may have done enough....One question: When you say you need more than one example per comp, do they ask you more than one question per comp. I hope so, I have 3 little scenarios for most of them which cover different aspects....

No - they will only ask you 1 question per comp (so 5 questions in total only.) What they might do however, is ask you to expand your answer so that they can support you in either sticking to the question or expand into other parts of the competency.

For example - For Building Capability, you may get asked about a time when you worked with other teams. If you only talk about working collaboratively, they may ask how you supported others in their development to get you to expand and cover more of the competency, or if you have strayed from STAR, they may ask what the outcome was.

I'm definitely no expert and although it's easy to point this stuff out in hindsight, I didn't think as clearly and wasn't very concise in the interview! I find myself thinking about all the things I didn't do or talk about in the interview...but hope I did enough to at least gain 4's minimum.

Never easy to guage how you did, so am hoping the interview feedback doesn't take as long as it did to reach interview stage!:rotfl:
  • While Camelot1971's remarks are a real boon, and absolutely helpful, I can't help thinking that a 'perfect' response to any competency as stated in the framework docs would have to be UTTER bullsh*t. I mean, what would that sort of a story look like?!

    I wouldnt disagree with you!

To be honest, if you hit a majority of them and you actually answered the question you would be looking at scoring a 6/7/8. Getting a 9 is not realistic and the average score is a 4/5 so if you did better than 5's there is a really good chance you would be offered a post.

To those that have been interviewed - if when giving your example you are then questioned further to draw additional info out is that marked against you? If they have to lead you into giving the right answers is that seen as a negative or are the marks given based on all the info provided regardless how its obtained?

You will not get marked down if they ask you a question to draw more info from you - it can really only go in your favour and if you can answer their additional question fully it can only help increase your marks. Same as if you ask them to repeat a question - you wouldn't get marked down for this either.

Just a quick question to those who have had their interviews......

Did they ask about your job preference at all?

I have just been reading the job description again (my interview is on Friday) and there are several different roles. I just wondered how they allocate the right people to the right roles.

I wasn't asked at all at my interview in 2009, and there were other job roles described there too, so I wondered if it was based on your scores at interview - I think I just scraped through! That was my first experience of a competency interview and I had no idea what they were going to ask until they thrust a paper into my hand an hour before they saw me, when I had completed the tests at the assessment day !
  • How is it that a region is doing an external recruitment , but 1 office in that region does an internal progression exercise.
Where is the open and fair recruitment ?
What makes that 1 office so special ?
This recruitment has certainly been an eye opener, to the inner working of DWP.
