I think it's been said before but can anyone confirm/deny if the competencies on the application form have any relevance/weight in the process at/after the interview stage? I understand the test results are now redundant. As I understand it the interview has 5 competencies and each is marked out of 9 and scores tallied. Progressing to the checks stage based on this alone?[/QUOTE]

    That is correct

The booking system works off a database, if a slot is booked it is removed from the list and the entry is stored in the Database and a email is posted.

It may be possible to "book" the same slot twice but even if that occurs it would likely overwrite the first booking slot. If for example you try and re-arrange your interview your slot is not displayed, even though it is now available. You would have to go out of the site and back in for the slot to be displayed again and I tested this.

Despite your views of the "DWP" the website software follows very strict rules on what is and what is not allowed, so I say it's impossible baring a bug within the system.

I seem to recall reading a post from someone who had had their interview which said that three interviews were conducted at the same time - I haven't been able to find it (I thought it was vwgirl but it wasn't, and it could have been Wanda :D) but if it's not a wind up then it suggests that the booking system may be more flexible than you think it is.

I am now even more confused as I have just checked my application status's - just to see if Black Country had changed anything and saw that my status for Staffs and Shropshire had changed to 'Invitation to 1st Interview'. I assumed this was a propogation from the B'ham interview set up but when I clicked on it opened me up to be able to book an interview in one of three locations in Staffs/Shrops -Stafford, Telford or Stoke for dates from 8th March through 16th March. Now I already have an interview set up in B'ham on Friday 9th March but as I would much prefer to work in the Staffordshire area I have now booked an interview in Stafford the following Monday - 12th March.

I did not get an e-mail stating I had been invited for an interview in Staffs/Shrops but once I booked the interview I got the confirmation e-mail and access to the documents and my status shows I have an interview in Stafford on 12th March.

So I now have 2 seperate interviews scheduled in two of my application areas!! Oh and the Black Country status has not changed at all.

It was SG who was interviewed yesterday morning - see post #2856 :)
  • You seem to know quite a lot about the recruitment process, systems used and seem offended by my quote that nothing is impossible with DWP ("DWP") etc Are you involved with the process?

That would be because I have worked for the DWP and other areas of the civil service.

I wasn't offended at the "impossible" comment but it suggests something which I know shouldn't possibly happen due to the way the website was designed (barring a bug which is always possible).

What does irritate me though are WUM's and scaremongers.

Some like E London have 2 panels, but they are 15 minutes apart in start time and have separate booking slots. I think people just got confused and assumed 1 slot = multiple panels.
  • A couple of questions re the interview. I understand it is 5 minutes for each competency.

1/ Would it generally be better to approach each competency with 1 singular narrative under the STAR system covering as many of the bullet points in the competency framework as possible or is it better to draw on several examples with more succinct answers yet still adhering to the STAR system.

2/ Must one address every bullet point under each subheading in the competency framework to achieve a high mark or would addressing at least 1 bullet point under each section suffice?

3/ Are they giving a mark for communication?

Well I'm home. I don't think I did atall well but we'll see. I was with two other applicants, we went in a room together for our docs to be copied and them we were taken to our seperate interviews. I had three interviewers and they stuck to the competencies. It was exactly how vwgirl kindly explained and lasted around 40 mins. My throat went dry andd I duplicated. Time to sit back and wait now, good luck to everybody else, but rest assured there were no surprises and NO further tests.

If they ran two panels with start times in close proximity and were told to be there 15 minutes or so in advance then its likely they would be waiting together while they waited for the panels to finish.
  • Checked my status again. Still nothing. Anybody left to find out their scores yet or is it just me?

Previously they gave an extra 3 marks for communication, but that was for the 2009 exercise so its possible but unless someone can post their scores we won't know.
