Bear in mind that you will be marked out of 9 for each comp in the interview too so it isn't really an advantage to get through to interview on test alone as they will be in the dark about how 'good' their comps are.

Totally understand the frustration about different markings though, that just shouldn't be happening.

It's a tremendous advantage for people who know that they have solid competency answers.

It's a moderate advantage for people who have average competency answers but no feedback on them therefore no basis to improve them.

It's no advantage for people delighted to get an interview based on the test alone whose competencies are obviously or unbeknownst to them 'awful'.

    ---

In other words such a sift does massive favours for strong candidates as it includes scores of people with good test results 61%+ but weak competencies. If every one of the 180 candidates had already had their competencies assessed as good enough to progress- the competeition is that much more- as, of course, the interview grades the same competencies a second time.

Right, here's a question then. My examples were all marked as good/strong by one region, but my home region marked me as 3's and 4's which supposedly means I'm out of the running. However, I aslo applied for East London and scored way over their pass mark in the online test. Does this mean that I will still be interviewed for that position, seeing as they have not marked any competencies? Hmmm.....

    I think not.

They needed 180 interviewees. They took the top ~180 test scores 61%+ & GISers. Do we really think they are going to trawl all other UK regions for people who have applied to multiple regions whose home region is not E. London?

Oh they should. They said they will. But it's not going that way- is it?
  • Well there's mismanagement here all right!

The unfairness, of course, lies in the competency marking, as there is no standard that can be policed or evaluated across the multitude of variously talented, intelligent, bright, dumb, and damn near microcephalic folks who'll be on the case. So you get what they give, whether they understand what you've said or not. Or know how to interpret it correctly or not. In fact the only reason I haven't complained yet is because (by luck, I'd say) my comps are all marked at 4 or above.

What should they have done? Well, exactly what they're doing in the areas where they've far too many applicants: forget the damn app form and do the whole cut on the test. At least that's been marked infallibly (AFAIK) by a computer, and not by someone who's had a long and tiring morning at JCP.

What did your home region mark?

I got 1s for B&S but already had marks in for BC: I have, as yet, received no e-mail from either location.

Shouldn't have got a rejection if you're still on for interview at home, I don't think, as you could still get posted to B&S..

I did not apply in my home region and was told, the the region nearest to my post code would be marking my comps. I was led to believe Coventry & Warwickshire would mark my comps. No feedback from cov as yet.

I'm with you walter but don't get me started on that test.

The factual questions- are less the issue though one or two were poorly worded.

The situational judgement questions are what I would call worthless. At least they would be equally worthless for all candidates though!

How can it? Each slot is 1 (one) interview. There were 12 slots between 09:00 and 15:30. Something like 09:00, 09:15. 10:00, 10:15 and so on. There is more than one panel so there can be 2 or 3 interviews/hour but they won't interview more than one person at the time. You have to go there early to have your documents collected so it might happen to be there waiting with some other candidates.
I think my calculations are sound considering they would normally interview 3/position and 50 of those are available.

Well I am aware of 2 people who have booked on the same day at the same time for E London. This has now led me to believe there are more than 180 slots (15X12). It looks more like 540 now competing for 50 vacancies.

Maybe they are just trying to get 50 people off their signing register!!! Improve their stats at same time!! And what have they been doing for over a month - just weeding people out by whether they have single apps in or not. Scary!:wall:

yes your calculations are more feasible.

however, it was implied in the posts that 3 people had the same slot.

didn't realise the timings of the slots.
