DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

Thank you A10. Is this info. official/reliable? Any idea if they're still sending out interview invites?
I spoke to them today an they said E.London will only be taking 61% and above due to the vast volume of apps they received. Then they will check all those apps competences and make a decision.0 -

Can I be cheeky and ask what your scores were as I applied for West Yorkshire and haven't heard anything yet
(BTW I got 94% and 2x4, 1x5, 2x6)
Arsh was an internal applicant for the Lancashire area so may have some 'inside' information.
Thank you. I'm really pleased, hope you hear soon. My scores were 71 % and 5,5,4,8,4. When I booked my interview there was lots of slots available so it looks like invites have only just started to go out.0 -

Thank you A10. Now I'm even more confused than before - so, some candidates like my friend, have received interview invitations without competency evaluations, while despite higher scores, I'll have to wait for my competencies to be scored - which means I may or may not pass the sift. ??!!:( Thanks to you and everyone else for keeping us updated. Sorry, just wanna get it over with.0 -
I have sucessfully carried out a role as EO in Derbyshire for approx 2 1/2 years with annual appraisal consistently good, reward and recognition twice and no issues at all yet I cannot get through competencies.
I now have to be revert to substantive grade even though I have never performed the role and had no training. I am fully trained and experienced at the EO grade.
I have heard people have applied for more than 1 district and got totally different scores. I am seeking to contact others who believe the recruitment process is flawed and breaches the civil service code.
Can any who wish to discuss this contact me and assist me with a complaint to the civil service commission
Thanks0 -

Fairly sure that the 'fair and open competition' but has gone out the window. Already in discussions with PCS about it.0 -

One has to ask 'why 61%?' rather than a round figure? Answer... They had 180 interview slots and the top 180 candidates fell between 61% and 100%. Simple as that I'd say.
Logistically I don't think E. London are inviting based on competencies. This would have meant evaluating the competencies for every candidate who passed the test 35% +. Trawling through the competencies of 100s of candidates scoring 35-50% would have little merit from HR's point of view.
If the above holds true then it would be excellent news for those who have passed the sift and who have a reasonable grasp of competency based interviews. The fact is there is a vast difference between 180 candidates who have been carefully sifted based on the merit of their carefully contructed competency based answers vs 180 whose only achievement is to pass a fairly dubious test.
I predict a great many interviewees will have no grasp of competency based interviews whatsoever. And even where the format is fully understood the nature of this campaign will attract those without the ready experience to formulate good competency answers.
When you think about it - a campaign for 50 jobs is going to be unwieldy. I'm not excusing the flaws but it comes as little surprise that attention to detail is lacking in candidate selection.
Go to the interview- be professional- provide relevant examples in the STAR format and get 1 of 50 jobs.0 -
I currently work for DWP and our HR procedures confirm that anyone receiving a score of 3 or less for any competency will automatically be sifted out.0

How will this apply to E. London where invites to interview have been based on the situational test alone? Will people scoring 3 fail the interview proper? I find this questionable. Will you get 50 people scoring all 4s/5s in a batch of 180 people who competencies haven't been checked prior to interview and might be ****.0
