DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

Just chat to a Recruitment chap. East Scotland interviews on first week of march. No letters out yet.
the highest Minimum rquired score is for Northumbria minimum scores 80% , Scotland in region of 60%. North London and Leicester people will be invited for interview meeting minimum criteria. However, they have not sift through all applications so it will be ongoing , instead of waiting for all sifts and then starting interviews, they are going as soon as they sift a batch. The candidate who been interviewed first or later stage won't matter. As the final outcome will be communicated after all interviews are done.
Well I hope the things r as simple as they sound.0 -

They said that HOPEFULLY should have feedback by the end of this week - was told the same last week, it was supposed to be by the end of last week.
Why, I mean WHY would anyone in their right mind set the pass mark for the online test to just 35% giving themselves a massive, MASSIVE task of having to check competencies of so many people is absolutely beyond me to be honest.
Looks like they just lower the pass mark for the online test until they have enough suitably scored competencies to fill their interview slots. They could save time and money by presenting their information more accessibly to candidates, so that the competencies they get back are more likely to be of the required standard. For the guaranteed interview scheme though, you only have to meet the minimum criteria.
Those of you who've done this job before, for how long has the process been the way it is? Is it an improvement? Does the DWP respond well to staff criticisms of its recruitment processes, or does it barrel on regardless? The process is really confusing and opaque.0 -
My mum has just had her competency scores back. Damn it, she did better than me! (Greater Manchester).0

It was always quite difficult to do large recruitment programmes due to the size. I also struggled sending out letters to people inviting them to an interview as people kept ringing every 2 minutes asking for updates, so it seems better that it's done by email now.0 -
Note to self, be more organised with paperwork!
The reason being I am having a nightmare trying to find 3 years worth of either p60's, payslips or letters etc. Also just remembered I need to get a passport picture done.
Why oh why do they insist on having all this stuff in advance I do not know. I've used a ton of ink printing everything out.
Good luck to everyone that has an interview. Looks like I will be attending mine still with no knowledge of what my competancy scores are. Will I ever find out? Who knows?0 -
Has anyone heard anything about Durham Tees Valley??0

South Yorkshire are only marking competencies above a certain mark and it's certainly not 35%! Had a few friends who have had their status changed to Application Unsuccessful with no comps marked.
As others have said the pass mark is 35% but due to the numbers of applicants it's been raised to something else, I'm guessing with all the variations we've read on here it's purely down to each location how they are dealing with it :>0 -
My West of Scotland feedback showing as still under review,
clutching at straws and now pinning my hopes on those with higher test scores haven't done so well with competencies, so dwp lower the pass rate and I get a chance, might happen.... but probably won't0 -

I can appreciate that. The Recruitment Helpline is probably doing its collective nut in.
So why don't they just add another link on your user account page that can be used for progress updates? For example:
Birmingham and Solihull: We are currently sifting through applications, and thank you for your patience. Estimated date for completion is currently xx/xx/xx.
We are currently deliberating on the outcome of your recent interview. We hope to inform you of your progress by xx/xx/xx.0 -
Last (and only) time I applied with DWP (AO/FTA) it took them 4 months to give me a start date and at that time there were only 8000 applications for the whole London region. The process was a bit simpler then in terms that the competences were only assessed at the interview stage and the tests were 2 (literacy and numeracy) taken a day or two before the interviews.
Things don't change easy in DWP because (in my opinion) no one is ever (or hardly) held responsible when things go wrong. The level of incompetence in DWP can be easily measured by just having a chat with some of the staff in JCP. Sorry to say that but it's a fact.
Are staff happy to work there? I used to joke that staff at the JCP had "psychiatrist face": that sort of probing, reactionless look they use to create detachment. A sort of smile-free environment.0
