Oh give it a rest mark! I've just looked back to see what you've contributed to this thread and it's absolutely nothing! You posted your scores in an arrogant way and then arrogantly offered to advise people on how they should do it better! Since then you've given absolutely no help to anyone at all!0 -

Gosh I bet you were worried about getting through... sorry I don't mean to sound derogatory...
I just feel you should be a little more understanding to those that got high scores in their online test but not so much on their competencies... You are the same just the other way around...
Hoping that all that deserve it, at least get an interview to prove their worth...
I do! I just think that the online test didn't give me a chance to show what i can do whereas other people don't think the competencies give them a chance. Swings and roundabouts. I've already said that if the cut off was 50% then i'd have failed and accepted it. I'd have been disappointed but i'd have accepted it.
By the sounds of it you needed a 4/9 to pass these. That's only 44%...0 -

I think you are too worried about people unhappy with the process costing you an interview. As a result your comments relating to those of us who are are less than flattering. Do not worry about your own application, but you could be a little more diplomatic in how you address others who don't agree with you is all.0 -
The sifters should have had training and results should be standardised, others have posted wildly varying scores from different areas for the same competencies.
Of course different sifters will give different marks and it's rubbish.
Exam boards sample batches or randomly selected marked papers to ensure examiners are applying mark schemes to a standard.
Do you mean asking different questions of different candidates or just asking different questions to those in the competency task? But interviewers will also ask different questions and some might be easier than others. That's the way life is.
The former would be a breach of Equal Opportunities and bad practice.

I spoke to a team leader at my local JCP this week, she said she had no idea how many applied apart from 2 of her team or when they would finish with sifting, or even how many vacancies in this area. I left no wiser.0 -
I heard this too heard my area were only sifting 80 percentile only which means the 2 1/2 days i worked on my competencies not even looked at. Hopefully this is hearsay.
I think if you passed the test all competencies should be looked at else whats the point in writing them should have asked you to write them after.
Yes - I do hope it is hearsay, but I think there may be some truth in it, as the silence from Glos & West has been deafening (and they only advertised 50 jobs to start with).

This Was my first competency and it scored a 1...........
Building Capability
I believe that learning a skill and keeping current with that skill is very important to the way an organisation operates. I always strive to keep my processes and methods up to date, attending new courses and gaining relevant qualifications where necessary, especially when changes in policy or situations demand it. As a junior manager within the armed forces i once found myself overseeing a telecommunications team for a particular 6 week tasking, the most junior member of my team had recently finished an information technology degree prior to joining the army, and happened to be the most educated and up to date soldier within my team relevant to the task. I soon noticed that some of the more senior members of the team were becoming frustrated and disheartened that they did not have the subject knowledge to input more individually into the task. The most junior member was overworking himself, doing the same amount of workload as a team; i quickly noticed this and set up a training day where the team could learn from each other and practice skills. Once the task commenced again the workload was equally spread and all concerns were resolved. Gaining more team experience.

yep i didnt do fantastic on online test either and heard nothing on the sift so still keeping my fingers crossed that what i heard for in my area is hearsay else mine wont get looked at either.
Gutted as I am a permanent EO at the mo so gutted if i dont get a look in and its not because I am not suited for the job or cant write a competency like some have hinted its because the recruitment system has got flaws in it
good luck0 -

Well done on your comp score..I may be mistaken but I think the whole point of this thread is for people to be able to discuss their thoughts and feelings on the recruitment process, to celebrate good news and empathise with those who feel they have not done so well.
I think it is human nature to question things...(just as you have put across your opinion in your posts) and the general gist I am getting from this thread recently is that there are major inconsistencies with scoring comps...many on this forum just want to be able to understand how these marks have been derived and whether it was a fair and consistent process - I personally believe that many are justified in questioning the process and it's their choice as to how far they go with it.0
