DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

Hi Wanda! Congrats on brilliant scores! As you say you were playing devils advocate I'll do the same! If you scored 90% on the online test but failed the competency part of the application wouldn't you feel that they conflict each other a little bit? As in if someone can do so well on one but not on the other then doesn't that make one of them slightly pointless? Just a thought. Best of luck if you get an interview! (assuming you will!)0

I spoke to an ex colleague (who still works for JCP) today and they have heard that there has been a lot of talk about the compentencies and some districts are unsure what to do, as many have misunderstood how these should be written (for obvious reasons) and therefore many have not met the criteria!! They are looking at lowering the passmark of these now...
I don't think being pious is very helpful if you do have a good score and also believe that it is all totally subjective... I do know that some just made up their competencies and asked others to help with them, I think the previous recruitment process made it more certain that you were getting the right candidate, but then again I would say that as I got through with flying colours...
Good luck all, I believe right now that this process is all a bit of a lottery...
I really hope those who have 'made up' any competencies, get such a grilling at the interview! I'd like them people that Alan Sugar gets in when he interviews his final 5, the ones who are weedled in just to trip them up and spot any inconsistencies!!:rotfl:0 -
I have also applied for Black Country, Staffs and Warwickshire, I had my comps looked at by a couple of EO grade staff and they said they were very good, although i must stress im not part of the DWP im an external applicant. Im worried that i have been cheated and feel so sick!0

I really don't like the idea of this... but then I suppose I would say that. If they really believe their recruitment method is the best way to go then they should choose a pass mark and stick to it. If they said you need 50% to pass the online test before hand and I'd got what I got then i'd have failed. And that's fine! And if they said you need all 4's or above to pass the competency stage then they should stick to that too. If they find they've lost more people than they thought then they should interview what they do have and pick the best.0 -

They should lower the pass mark to zero and start over as it's turning out to be a recruitment process 'not fit for purpose'.
The competency statements are turning out to be poorly marked and too subjective to have a fair marking system in place.
Other contentions are that they did not clearly explain how they wanted them written and criticism of the on-line tests being irrelevant to the actual posts advertised.0 -

lol you don't have an agenda do you? Fairly obvious that you're another one who didn't do as well as they would have liked on the competency stage! Look i've said before, if you wanted to do better then the information was there and you should have followed it. I'm sure your 90% was really good on the online tests but if you can't prove in writing that you can do it then what hope have you got of proving REAL people that you can do it?0 -

Um, you might wanna check MarkyMark's previous posts regarding his scores....:whistle:0 -

This is ridiculous! How can you say they didn't explain how they wanted them written? Isn't it obvious? Some of the ones i've seen on here are so general I refuse to believe they went through a competent manager.
Let's say you're at an interview and they ask you to demonstrate how you work well in a team. If you start saying things like "well i work really well in a team. I'm part of a team on a day to day basis and i believe in a great team ethic and team spirit" then do you really expect to get the job, or any marks?0 -
Really far from the truth Wanda on Markymarks competencies he scored very highly on them. If you look back at previous posts he had alot of stick for this also.0
