yep i didnt do fantastic on online test either and heard nothing on the sift so still keeping my fingers crossed that what i heard for in my area is hearsay else mine wont get looked at either.

Gutted as I am a permanent EO at the mo so gutted if i dont get a look in and its not because I am not suited for the job or cant write a competency like some have hinted its because the recruitment system has got flaws in it

good luck

Hopefully just hearsay, hope you get it if youve shown you can do the job,
Good luck
• This Was my first competency and it scored a 1...........

Building Capability

I believe that learning a skill and keeping current with that skill is very important to the way an organisation operates. I always strive to keep my processes and methods up to date, attending new courses and gaining relevant qualifications where necessary, especially when changes in policy or situations demand it. As a junior manager within the armed forces i once found myself overseeing a telecommunications team for a particular 6 week tasking, the most junior member of my team had recently finished an information technology degree prior to joining the army, and happened to be the most educated and up to date soldier within my team relevant to the task. I soon noticed that some of the more senior members of the team were becoming frustrated and disheartened that they did not have the subject knowledge to input more individually into the task. The most junior member was overworking himself, doing the same amount of workload as a team; i quickly noticed this and set up a training day where the team could learn from each other and practice skills. Once the task commenced again the workload was equally spread and all concerns were resolved. Gaining more team experience.

I've highlighted the part where you said what it was you did...
• Well done on your comp score..I may be mistaken but I think the whole point of this thread is for people to be able to discuss their thoughts and feelings on the recruitment process, to celebrate good news and empathise with those who feel they have not done so well.

I think it is human nature to question things...(just as you have put across your opinion in your posts) and the general gist I am getting from this thread recently is that there are major inconsistencies with scoring comps...many on this forum just want to be able to understand how these marks have been derived and whether it was a fair and consistent process - I personally believe that many are justified in questioning the process and it's their choice as to how far they go with it.

Yes true. They have the right to question it just as much as I have the right to agree with it. My point is that it has now become a thread for moaning about how absolutely terrible the system is and how the sifters do not know what they're doing. The inference of this is that people like me who did well probably just got a generous sifter, or a sifter who wasn't in a rush to go home.
• Mark, Wanda, excellent scores. I have not had mine marked yet. Just out of interest, would you mind sharing how long it took for you to write the five competency statements?
• I haven't read the entirety of this thread, but have to agree that the process is fatally flawed. I'm an internal applicant already doing the job (on a temporary promotion) and my competency scores were outrageously low. My own line manager was completely shocked.....she really thought my examples would have got me through.

I'm afraid that complaining won't do any good, the only option is to appeal on the grounds that you feel the scoring process was mismanaged in some way. You would have to provide evidence of such mismanagement.

Good luck to all those that got interviews.

I do! I just think that the online test didn't give me a chance to show what i can do whereas other people don't think the competencies give them a chance. Swings and roundabouts. I've already said that if the cut off was 50% then i'd have failed and accepted it. I'd have been disappointed but i'd have accepted it.

By the sounds of it you needed a 4/9 to pass these. That's only 44%...

trust me no online test, competancy writing or interview can prepare you for face to face interviewing at the jobcentre. Everyone who gets through come back on here in 6 months time and see if your attitude to the job has changed. This is just a process it does not make you good at the job.

Well, interesting reading after 3 days away (working at the job I got after my applications went in :), sadly only until May though :(). The MarkyMark and WandFish debates were fun but I don't think I'll get involved. Congratulations and good luck to the few people who have managed to secure an interview so far.

I finally had sift results for one of my applications (North of Scotland) today, very disappointing 1s and 2s. Unlike mommorat I did get feedback comments but I don't agree with them. I'm waiting to see whether the other four regions I've applied to return significantly different results - that's if they ever get round to marking them .

I spent about two weeks working on mine. I'd guess about 40 hours?

Wanda you have only just joined the forum, and therefore can only talk about your current good news, if you had joined earlier when you had received your test scores, your comments may have been very different...
It would be good for you to try to understand the reasoning behind all these comments rather than just focusing on the negative.. You currently feel elated, unfortunately not all contributers to this forum do... Just think of them too and show some empathy...

Thanks - you too:)

Although I'm not CS now, I was an EO for 7/8 years (worked my way up from AO) so like yourself, more than capable of doing the job - IMHO!
