DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

What still puzzles me is that if they initially decided they only wanted high scorers from the on-line test (numeracy, comprehension, analysis, and whatever other skills these tests prove etc.) they must have reckoned that they were essential skills for successful candidates.
Then along come the disappointing competency scores (no doubt partly due to their own failure in clearly communicating the format of what they wanted applicants to write) and now they start using a lower pass mark for the on-line tests to accommodate applicants who passed the competencies but did less well in the on-line testing.
It's as if they've moved the goal-posts they originally decided upon in order to now prioritise competency scores at the expense of the earlier on-line scores.
Competency statement scores have now become the critical hurdle to get through to an interview it seems ?
Competency based techniques have been a key component of civil service recruitment for many years now. I hate writing them myself, but I do believe that they are a valid test, as it is up to you to sell your skills.
As for the so-called failure of DWP to communicate it's requirements - there is a clear link to the competency guidelines at the very beginning of the Recruitment Support Pack.
If you want to be a civil servant you have to get used to wading through red tape!

Hi everyone, so they have finished the area where I live and results should be posted this week.
We were told that they had to lower the pass mark to 36% as the level of written competencies was very poor. Out of over a 1000 applicants, less than 150 were successful.
I am still waiting for mine to be posted on feedback, hoping they hurry up though.
Good luck everyone

You'd still need to get 4 because anything less than 4 is a poor example.
I understand that but as we've seen, what rates as a 'good' competency varies depending on who does the marking, one poor chap has submitted the same for 2 regions yet been marked a '2' for one area and '7' for the other!
Also, someone else said that the recruitment guy said a less than '4' wasn't an instant failure?0 -

So they've already marked the apps in your area, but they haven't posted them up yet?0 -
Yes they were all marked yesterday therefore I presumed results would be up today but nothing on mine yet, not really sure what the hold up is but its very frustrating!!!

So basically chrish there's 100 jobs in the BC area and only 150 are getting to an interview... Even if you was to say 200 people got though to the interview.... A 1 in 2 chance wouldn't be bad..... I'm assuming that they will only take on 50 people instead of 100 now0

That's an interesting point - if they have 100 vacancies but not enough successful competency scores to meet their interview criteria - do they then just keep lowering the pass mark of the on-line test stage to look at more of the previously 'rejected' appllications, or at some stage will draw a line and readvertise ?0
