DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

Hi everyone, so they have finished the area where I live and results should be posted this week.
We were told that they had to lower the pass mark to 36% as the level of written competencies was very poor. Out of over a 1000 applicants, less than 150 were successful.
I am still waiting for mine to be posted on feedback, hoping they hurry up though.
Good luck everyone
Is that 36% the overall pass-mark (incl.competency scores) or are you referring to the earlier on-line percentile scoring ?:beer:0 -
Given by the scores red sky posted earlier I am not counting my chickens... Will find out tomorrow how many I have left0

So basically chrish there's 100 jobs in the BC area and only 150 are getting to an interview... Even if you was to say 200 people got though to the interview.... A 1 in 2 chance wouldn't be bad..... I'm assuming that they will only take on 50 people instead of 100 now
No I am assuming they will interview 150 people for the 100 jobs. They will then create a merit list based on the successful candidates. If they don't have enough they will probably just recruit again!!0 -
And the 36% was the online test. The two (the test and competencies) are looked at separately.0

Well I wasn't going to say as worried 'the powers that be' would find out, lol... but its black country area
Interesting that you say the level of competencies were low in the Black Country but one person had identical competencies marked by Black Country and Birmingham but had vastly different marks - the marks for B'ham being pretty good but the Black Country marked much lower - with one competency scoring 7 in B'ham yet only a 2 in the Black Country. See post 1142 on this thread to see the differences.
That surely makes no sense especially as the B'ham comments seem to imply the candidate had some good examples but the Black Country thought the exact opposite. The level of discrepency in the marking is very high and very worrying IMHO.
I have myself received pretty good scores from B'ham but am now dreading Black Country scores as that is mainly where I would like to work. Hopefully the scores will be up tomorrow and I will be out of my misery.0 -
Lol I suppose the positive note is that if you are successful at the interview you won't be put on a waiting list lol0

I'm a little intrigued that they'd sift that low. The test wasn't difficult - would they really rather take on low scorers who followed their writing format than high scorers who may not have done? Doesn't that rather defeat the object?0 -
My application for East Scotland has gone 'On hold' today.
My last name starts with B
It does seem pointless to have an entrance test to ensure a basic level of intelligence and common sense, for them to then completely disregard it and base all on competency replies. (If the 36% passrate latest is true)
Some people got a lot of help and coaching on what to write and others really struggled (me!) and it is already apparent there is huge discrepancies in the marking which isn't fair.
Hopefully not much longer to find out either way for me..0 -

That's the point I was trying to make as well.
They could be favouring good scenario writers at the expense of fairly basic numeracy and comprehension skills.

It really sounds as if there is a issue with the sifting process with huge discrepencies between how regions are marking the competencies. Either one region is marking way too tough or another is way to lenient - or a mixture of both. It would be interesting to know the level and experience of the people doing the sifting and whether it should be done by a central area instead of regionally.0
