  • Candygirl, I'm so pleased to hear that. Are you willing to let us know what happened and how you used mindfulness to help? Well done for being so brave xx

It's a bit of a private family matter tbh, but thanks:DI was told of a situation i've been dreading for years, and did the 3 min breathing technique to gain control before I reacted:D

That's great Candy. Sometimes anticipation is so much worse than the actual event, which is why we should always try to remain in the moment.

    Hi Everyone,

I have just read thorugh the whole of this thread and had to post. I have always struggled with stress and never coped with stressful situations very well, in the last 8 months or so it has become a lot worse though and I developed an anxiety disorder, panic attacks and I struggle with my breathing everyday, I always feel as though some one is sat on me and I can't take a deep breath. I was offered tablets at the doctors back in October time but I decided that I wanted to find solutions on my own without resorting to that.

Since then I have tried a few things, I swear by Paul McKenna's 'Control Stress' and 'I can make you happy' (I think my partner thinks I am having an affair with Paul, I listen to him about 3 times a day), however although it did help I have still struggled. Then I found Mark Williams Mindfulness meditation book and I absolutely love it. I try to do a bit each day (I have been doing it for about a week or so now) and also whenever I am getting a bit stressed and I am finding it really helps. I love to remind myself that thoughts are just events in my mind and not real things, I find that helps so much.

I also had my first Reiki session last night which I absolutely loved and I feel very light and joyful today. My other tip is the I swear by 'The Secret' and 'The Power', they are full of such wonderful concepts and I can't help but feel better when I think in that way.

Anyway I will stop waffleing now, I just wanted to letyou know how it is working for me and that it is lovely to find a group of like minded people to maybe chat with about it all.

Take care everyone and look after yourselves xx :A

I love that phrase - might have to type up and put up in my house!!!
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!
  • Hi Spuddy!

I loved your post, it was uplifting. Great to see you on the thread. I am a fan of Paul McKenna. I think there is something subliminal in his CDs that make people fall in love with him because myself and a few other people I know have formed a crush on him after listening to his CDs! Unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy The Secret. I definitely think that practising mindfulness on a regular basis will help your anxiety and panic attacks and allow you to detach from your thoughts a little until you no longer associate with them so closely. I look forward to reading how you get on in the future! xx
  • Hi welcome to the thread. It might be worth asking your GP to refer you to a local Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction programme (MBSR). In my area they're run at the local university in partnership with the NHS, i'm due to start it in April when the next course runs. Maybe have a look online at your local /nearest uni to see if they run it and if not, ask your GP to refer you to the local psychology department, who are likely to have staff trained in this approach - mindfulness is pretty popular
