  • Hi everyone,

How are you all getting on? I am in my second week of a new job. Loving the job but my colleagues are...a bit challenging. I am quite a quiet person and the people I'm in training with are all very loud so I struggle to make my voice heard and often just retreat into myself rather than spending a lot of effort trying to fit a word in! They are also a bit bit*hy and so I don't want to get involved in that...a bit challenging really.

I did a little mindfulness a couple of days ago and there is a free retreat on in Glasgow this Saturday (you just need to make a donation. Here is the link if anyone is interested: http://www.mindfullybeing.co.uk/Glasgowdayretreats.php ) so I am considering going to Glasgow for the day for that. Hope you are all well! xx
  • Hello! Meant to post again ages ago, but somehow I keep forgetting! Think I'm going to try and find the money for that Mark Williams book at some point - I've heard so many good things about it.
I haven't really tried any mindfulness stuff properly though, as I seem to be really fidgety at the moment and can't focus - I suppose if I really make an effort it will be worth it in the end though! Have been really stressed out recently with the money/job situation and just feel really sad, so I need to do something to help that! I've been doing the Maya Fiennes dvd once a week and am starting to feel a lot more calm after that now, but I think I need to do it more often!

Glad you are loving your job goldilockz, although I know what it's like to be surrounded by much louder people! I think I'm probably quite similar to you in that way - sometimes I feel like it's too much effort to try and get people to listen to you!

Ooh, if I wasn't skint I might have made the trip to Glasgow, but watching every penny at the moment!

That course looks fab in Glasgow on Sat, but I can't afford the train fare at the moment:o:o:o
I went to my course yesterday and we did a sitting body scan, mindful walking, and a few 3 minute breathing exercises:)http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-16406814
ETA just found this vid on bbc website

  • Hi guys,

Good to hear from you both. I'm in the same position, I really can't afford to go to Glasgow so probably won't. I've been to two from Avinash, the man running the Glasgow retreat, and they've been fab, but it's a toss up between eating for a week or getting a train fare, tricky one! Your course sounds fab Candy. I would really like to go on another course, but the last time it cost me £250. I'd love to be referred via the NHS but not sure how to go about that as I don't have a GP here. Really need to get back into the mindful habit though...Hope you're both well xx

  • That's so cool Candy! One of my old tutors at university used to work with JKZ and other mindfulness greats. Of course, I had no idea who he was until I finished my course! I think I will stick to doing mindfulness on my own instead of hoping to get on a course as it doesn't seem too likely that will happen. I think when my training at work is over it'll be easier to do mindfulness (and exercise, and eat healthily and all the other things I've been putting off!)
  • Hi everyone,
How are you all? I attended the Glasgow retreat yesterday after all and I am SO glad I did. I woke up at 6am wondering what I should do with my day and feeling quite low. I decided to drive to Glasgow and the retreat was just wonderful. It is strange how spending a few hours meditating with strangers can make you feel very close to them. It was a very supportive and loving environment and I would highly recommend going to a retreat if you have not already done so.

How is everyone else getting on with mindfulness? I hope you're all taking good care of yourselves and having a lovely weekend xx

Great to hear you had a good time at the retreat goldilockz - sounds like it was very beneficial!

On the first couple of pages you recommended the Christopher Germer downloads. I've just had a look at the site and there are loads of them! Would you recommend any in particular to start off with? I still haven't properly tried it as I don't really know where to start!

    Hi April Lady,

I think the downloads can be varied according to the situation. I personally like the self-compassion meditation and the body scan, which are two of the slightly longer ones. There is also one called loving kindness for the difficult person which would come in handy if you have to deal with people who get to you. It is perhaps one of the most difficult things to do to wish someone joy and happiness who has been rude or hurtful towards you, but it is a skill worth practising as you are the only one affected if you are unable to forgive. I hope you enjoy the meditations xx
