  • Really sorry to hear that Candy. I definitely think mindfulness in any quantity helps but doing 5 meditations in one day had a kind of cumulative effect and I came away feeling untouchable. It's a feeling like no other and I'd recommend anyone to attend a retreat. We had a short discussion session after the retreat and some people had very intense experiences and went away feeling on top of the world. Considering how depressed I was feeling on Friday night, this is quite a feat.

We're going to a buddhist temple on Saturday to meditate with the monks, so am looking forward to that:)
Am still doing the breathing and body scans, and feel a lot better today:D:D

  • That'll be lovely Candy, please let us know how you get on. Glad you feel better today. When times are hard it's good to remember that 'this too shall pass'.

It's not mindfulness, but I can recommend 'Stop Thinking, Start Living' by Richard Carlson and 'The Worry Cure' by Robert Leahy - both are cognitive therapy books which help with stress and anxiety. Also, the Zen habits web site has lots of helpful stuff on stress, meditation, decluttering, and generally living a more simple life:

I second Richard Carlson's book. I found it so amazing I have two copies of it. Also, the book The Four Agreements is my saviour. I have an audio version of it and listen to it nearly every day on the way to work.

I'm trying to find and do one 'group' thing a week as I find meditating with others the most useful and positive practice. So last Saturday I did a silent day 'retreat'. And I've done silent walks and sitting practices in peoples homes. So I'm giving it by best shot.

This Saturday people across the world are joining in an hour of silent meditation.

So if there isn't a group near you doing it, we can do it at as a virtual MSE group X

I hope we're all still practising our mindfulness meditation.I have my last class on the course next week, and it has seriously changed my life:D:D
Will still meditate every day, and continue on my journey of self discovery, and hope we can all carry on contributing to this thread:D:D

    Hiya Candygirl & Everyone,

Yup, the meditation I do is, at the moment, keeping me from endlessly focussing on a hell realm of anxiety, fear thoughts. Specially at 2am! Crikey the stuff the mind comes up with - who needs it.

Very warm wishes to anyone suffering, there is a light and it's right here, right now, illuminating the mentally created suffering. What's more that light is who we are.

  • Hi Candy,

Thanks for re-igniting this thread! I have just come back from holiday in Iceland, was haunted by fearful and self-loathing thoughts, particularly towards the end. I did a little mindfulness but really need to get back into the swing of it as I am finding my mind to be quite a burden at times! I'm so delighted Candy and Joyfull that you are finding solace in mindfulness, thank you for sharing your stories xx
