APRILADY have a look on youtube for mindfulness body scans, and anything by Jon Kabat Zinn, and Mark Williams:D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

AprilLady, I also have Maya Fiennes kundalini yoga DVD. I watched through it before I did it and found it very odd so haven't actually got round to doing it yet! I think the part that put me off was when she bounces up and down on the floor. I was enticed by the positive reviews on Amazon though. How are you finding it?0

Haha, yes it was all the brilliant reviews on Amazon that made me buy it too!
I just try to go with it and hope that it's having some kind of positive effect! I still feel a total idiot when I have to do the chanting (which is why I only do it a couple of times a week at the moment, when I know my flatmate will be at uni!), and my mind still chatters away, but I'm already getting better at some of the exercises such as the one where you have to move your arms in and out (can't remember the name for it!) for about 2 and a half minutes. That almost killed me the first time! I'm going to try and stick with it for a while and see if I feel any different. I don't really 'get' all the spiritual stuff, and again feel a bit silly doing it, but if nothing else, it is a bit more exercise I'm getting!
Let me know if you decide to try it - maybe it just takes a bit of practice before you start getting all the benefits!0 -
I got a yoga for weight loss dvd a few weeks ago, but so far cba doing it:o:oAm concentrating on my mental fitness first;);)"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Thanks April. Yeah, the reviews made it sound like it was pretty magical, with amazing effects from the first time. I'm quite spiritual but draw the line at chanting or anything that could potentially cause humiliation/ a fit of giggles. However, after nearly breaking my back trying normal yoga (I'm about as flexible as a brick), I decided sitting down yoga would probably be nice and restful (I'm guessing I was probably wrong though). I am going on holiday in 4 weeks to Iceland and was planning on doing the DVD every day as well as 45 mins of mindfulness and eating healthily. However, now I have this new job, I am aiming just to do as much walking around the place as I can and 20 mins of mindfulness so as not to be too hard on myself. My OH is out just now and I have a free house for a few hours so I should really do some mindfulness. Instead, I have cracked open the Green and Blacks and have put on a DVD. Self-sabotaging or what?!0

Haha! I wouldn't read the Daily Fail if you paid me! Hopefully the article will encourage more people to try mindfulness though.0 -

I try and keep away from the media because its chief aim generally is to keep people in their drama. It is that which sells news papers and brings people in front of the messages from their advertisers. I often do a search on uplifting topics like this however. You sometimes can find absolute gems“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.” Eckhart Tolle0 -
I never buy it, but came upon the article online;):D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"
