  • Hi everyone,
Time for an end-of-week summary! How has this week been for you? I have had moments of intense worry, where one negative thought snowballs out of control and I end up having a near-panic attack. Luckily, these are becoming less frequent.

I have also discovered another tool for the therapeutic toolbox that might interest some of you. It's called Inner Child Therapy and is intended for people who have low self-esteem or anxiety/ depression which is likely to have been caused (at least partially) by difficulties in their childhood. Most of my problems can be traced back to when I was around 11 years old when my father left. Inner child therapy (in a very small nutshell) is about befriending and protecting that very vulnerable part of you that has been wounded by past difficulties. Although I haven't learned a great deal about it so far, what I've read has been very interesting and I've used some techniques in difficult times this week and they've really helped. Inner child therapy is a psychotherapeutic technique in itself, just like CBT or psychoanalysis, and is related to mindfulness because it requires a lot of awareness. It's been very interesting reading so far and I'm hoping it will contribute massively to my healing journey. Watch this space...xx

Thanks for sharing goldilockz. For me it has been a week of getting in touch with my authentic feelings which is something I need to work on and then expressing my truth to people. This has been scary but exciting and rewarding

Yesterday I went to my gratitude group. It was great to back with a bunch of like-minded people who are prepared to live out their full potential.

I would like to share one of the things we did together as a group. We each looked at an area of our lives which we felt could be more effective. This could have been relationships, wealth/finances, career, health/fitness, contribution, social life or spirituality. We wrote for five minutes or so about our current reality in that area of our lives. Then we rewrote the script changing each statement from the negative to a positive more empowering statement. We took the original scripts outside and burned them and then during our time of meditation together brought our new positive statements to mind. The idea is that on a daily basis we will read and review our new scripts. It is this repetition which brings new habits and new beliefs thus activating the Law of Attraction.

  • A gratitude group sounds amazing, something I've never heard of before. I have quite a few negative statements I would like to replace with more positive ones. I'm slowly getting there. I am learning that no one can do that for me. No matter how much validation or love I receive from others, I cannot rely on that for my happiness. If I do, I can equally allow hateful things people do and say to define me, and no one can be defined by the opinions or actions of others. Understanding yourself and relying on yourself for love, security and validation is one of the most powerful lessons in life because no one can consistently provide you with those other than yourself.

I am fairly new to mindfulness.
I have always suffered with anxiety and recently started to feel a bit down. My doctor actually recommended it too me, and I am just getting into researching it and understanding it a bit more.
Your comments have certainly inspired me to give it a proper go. I've never done anything like this before, so it'll be interesting too see how it pans out.

    Hi Shane,

Welcome! I'm glad you've found the thread helpful. I have to say that mindfulness, when practiced often, is a lifesaver. I have suffered from anxiety, OCD, depression...you name it. Mindfulness has been the only thing to help in a noticeable way. I really hope you find the same benefits.
