Spooky, I made this for the first time last night as per the recipes above although I didn't have the time to do in the oven but it was delicious on the stove, managed to freeze some too so will warm that through in the oven next time.

    Enjoy.

  • I'm doing slimming world at the moment too, and I use Splenda instead of sugar in the red cabbage mix and it tastes fine. I love red cabbage and am the only one in the house who will eat it, so I freeze it in plastic takeaway cartons and its lovely. I use the same method as the other posters above. Somtimes I also make red cabbage and apple slaw which is just shredded raw red cabbage, shredded red onion, chopped eating apples and extra light mayo mixed with a bit of natural yoghurt with lemon juice and a bit of splenda. about 1 sin for a big portion on Green or Red and delicious!

I have my friends coming for tea to eat about 7.15.

I have had lamb shanks cooking in redwine and rosemary all day.

    serving with mash, carrots and.....

was going to be Delias braised red cabbage with apples.

However only just started cooking. that involves 2 1/2 hrs cooking time and I have forgotten the apples!

Never cooked red cabbage before, have cream, butter, wine, spices, onions etc.

    Any suggestions?
  • Hi Girlpower

I saw a recipe on tv the other day which was similar to Delia's braised red cabbage (which I always make for Christmas day and is wonderful). It was the same principle but the cabbage and onion was shredded very finely and stir fried in butter for about 10 minutes, stirring all the time. They then added some grated apple and spices at the end, along with a splash of red wine vinegar. I haven't tried this myself but I have stir fried cabbage before and it tastes great!

    Good luck with your meal

How about frying in a very little oil with some onion for a couple of minutes. Add a spoon of sugar and carry on cooking so it caramelises, then add half a glass of red wine, cook for another 5 minutes till done.

Eat it! :rotfl: (Sorry, couldn't resist it)

    Try this http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/traditional-braised-red-cabbage-with-apples,809,RC.html
or google for other recipes, it looks like you can use it the same as white cabbage.
