Ooo pink coleslaw! Finely chopped red cabbage, grated carrots, finely chopped red onion, some grated beetroot if you have any, some mayonnaise and a little white wine vinegar.
Yummy! I love this.
You could also have a look in the mega index in the stickies on the front page. There might be a recipe or two in there.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Shred it finely
Sweat off some oninons
Add some sugar
Add red cabbage
Add a couple of cloves
Add some liquid - red wine is nice!!
Add some roughly chopped up Bramleys
Cook on a low heat for a long time till all lovely.
I sometimes add some piece of belly pork which makes it my favourite meal if served with tasty boiled potatoes but the pork is optional.
Cutting up red cabbage can leave your fingers very stained so if you have a food processor now's the time to use it!!0 -
Could always pickle it and use as an accompanyment ( SP?) with winter dishes.
Used to do it with hotpot - not a veggie I dish I know but sure you could adapt0 -
Pink coleslaw,I would never have thought of that, not that I have ever made my own coleslaw.
I would have to leave the beetroot out though,I hate the stuff.0 -
mmm, red cabbage cakes.(thats what we call them anyways.) shred it and boil it then and make into patty cake type things 0(like chefs do with potatoes, know it has a name but it won't come to me) then grill or shallow fry til brown on both sides, yummy.£2 saver club 30th sept 198 £2 coins = £396(£350 banked)0

I had a huge red cabbage delivered in my mini organic box this week and I have absolutely no idea what to do with it! As I am a 1 person (+ 1 cat!) household whatever I do needs to be freezable/preservable and as a devoted follower of slimming world things with sugar, high fat, flour are best avoided.
Does anyone have any ideas?
TIA

Chop it up quite finely, add a peeled chopped cooking apple, a little knob of butter, a bit of salt and pepper, and a dash of cider vinegar (or balsamic vinegar or apple juice or white wine), pack it into a casserole dish with a lid and cook it very slowly for an hour or two, stirring every once in a while. It's lovely. If you chop it then freeze it before cooking you can do this anytime. It's great with sausages or lamb. I've never had mine last long enough after cooking to freeze it when cooked...Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.0

easy peasy!
one of my favourite recipes, vary the amounts of apple/onion/honey to suit your taste, also if u like raisens or sultanas u can add a few
shred red cabbage
chop an onion
grate an apple (use skin but not core)
put in a large saucepan
add a bit of water
some honey/or brown sugar if no honey
a bit of cinamon or nutmeg (or both)
salt and pepper
cook slowly for a couple of hours (or in oven) till tender
allow to cool freeze in your preffered portion size
i just freeze in freezer bags then either get out and defrost overnight if organised or defrost in microwave or can be cooked in pan from frozen, lovely with roast or sausages in fact great with everything and very healthy tooMember 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4
