Hello Old stylers.
Yesterday we had a yummy dinner of braised red cabbage, peas, roasted new potatoes and chicken pie.
However, I now have a bowl full of left over braised cabbage and I don't know what to do with it. my first thought was bubble and squeek but we have no potatoes and I dont have time to shop.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.:oLBM- 01/04/2014

I make my red cabbage in bigger batches and then freeze what I dont use immediately. It freezes really well........Hope that helps
Jamie Oliver also adds a bit of lemon juice or vinegar and makes a pickle with it but he uses raw so I dont know if it will work with cookedEvery Penny's a prisoner :T0 -
Do you have eggs? If so, you could make a savoury-type omelette with the leftovers. Or a frittata which is normally a thick chunky omelette with potatoes and other vegs mixed in. You could leave out potatoes obviously if you don't have any, but mixing in some fried onion or chopped bacon would work quite well.0

Shred it, Salt it well and leave in a colander over a bowl to drain, next day rinse well and pack into sterile jars, cover with pickling vinegar and seal the jars tightly - wait three weeks - Delicious pickled red cabbage in time for Christmas!0

I would just freeze it, it's fine when it comes out. I always make a massive batch at once and freeze portions.Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0

I do this too. Nice as an extra vegetable with a roast dinner.0 -
Another vote for just freezing it. I regularly do this with leftover white or Savoy cabbage. At the time of writing, I have two 500ml tubs in the freezer.
I usually make "bubble & squeak" with it. I can't see any reason why this shouldn't work with red cabbage, although it will look different.
PS. Nigel Slater recommends using equal quantities of potato and cabbage by volume (not weight) for this.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?
