Try this recipe as it's very similar to the one I use:
    http://www.free-recipes.co.uk/free-recipes/recipe-07170.asp

I add a diced cooking apple and a desert spoon of redcurrant sauce to mine as well, though as I find it improves the texture, flavour and colour.

    :hello:
Due to a mix up by MrT we now have 4 red cabbages:rolleyes:

I have pickled one of them and am going to braise one with apples etc during the week but I can`t think of what to do with the other 2:think: and am loathe to end up throwing them out.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

    Cheers guys:T

Wow, this thread is the scene of my first ever post on MSE :D Has it really only been 3 years, feels like I've been here forever.

Funnily enough I made a load of braised red cabbage this week and divided it up in individual portions for the freezer. It freezes really well if you have the space;) I'm the only one who likes it so it's a perfect solution for me. Sorry, I see Greenbee has already made this point.

The other thing I do with red cabbage is make coleslaw with it -but I always make way too much and end up chucking it.

I have done a forum search but not got lucky, even in the big recipe collection. I'm sure someone has posted here in the last couple of weeks with a recipe for braised redcabbage that didn't take hours to cook. Any ideas? Was it you?

No idea - but very quick

    Chop cabbage.
    Melt some butter.
Chuck cabbage in and coat with melted butter.
Throw in some Cider and reduce.
That will do on it's own or you could add some raisins before you serve it.
