  • Looking forward to hearing about your journey :T

What are you growing in your veg patch. I still have some carrots coming through at the moment. Nothing going on other than the carrots at the moment. Hoping to have toms, cucumbers, strawberries, peppers, brocolli which we had last year and was quite successful with.

I love my animals, a small holding would be bliss. My pooches would love to be out all day every day.
    Just keep swimming!
  • Hi Skint and Livvy

Thank you for coming across from Chapter 1! Oh how far we've all come in 2011. What a year for many reasons hey?

Onto 2012 now, it better be ready for us as I am seeing one thing only which is to get rid of my debt! Along with having a happy and hopefully healthy family of course!

    Hi there

Just found you under new posts so will subscribe and will be cheering you on your way to debt freeness!!:D

I was FT until about 6 months ago, now PT and loving it ( but have got into debt again...still was living the high life until literally last week :o) kids are older than yours but lord was it hard. Easiest thing was to spend your way out of trouble or stress. My weaknesses were ( are?!) holidays and food...anyway I do understand how hard it can be to keep on going, especially if it's all a secret.

Best of luck and heres to a great chapter 2 and 3!!

Hiya there :) Lovely to have you along! :D

Thank you for offering to cheer me along - some days I really need it! I worked part time after DD was born a few years ago but cannot afford everything (ie HAVE to pays) on PT wage even with DH wage paying for the main things - I simply had too much to pay to debt every month on top of normal bills - now if I could shift the debt - things may change ;)

I am in a good place at the moment - mentally, physically and so on so I am grasping it with both hands as I know only too well that it can be taken away from you without your say so.

I am trying to transition to a cash only lifestyle bar the bi monthly grocery delivery as I hate waiting for things to come out of bank and will know where I am with cash only. So that's a focus this month. I find I need challenges all the time as that's the only way I succeed - If I don't have any I sit back and things start to crumble.

    Do you have a diary?

Oooh you sound right up my street when you mention animals! Makes every other worry melt into insignificance! (Although my dog's nuts)

I only have leeks left from last year now which haven't took off really but someone said they need a hard frost to kick them up the bum?

This year is pretty much like you but the major challenge is to keeps the hens off them as they detroy things which I didn't give enough credit to last year and in one afternoon they got rid of all my sweetcorn (was rusbbish anyway but not point lol). I am hoping to have a coldframe this yr (HM one) as don't have a green house and starting many things off in pots in the spare room where it's south facing and light. Everything will be grown from seed initially as the plugs are too expensive.

I shall growexactly what you have listed with maybe spring onions and leeks too. I have an idea for the strawberries from the garden thread on here which uses 4 pint plastic milk bottles to self water them for a week or so.

Hopefully the soil will be delievered tomorrow and I can get at it on Sunday as we have jobs on tomorrow. Can't wait!

    :T

    PS Thanks for posting!

Morning - gosh nearly lunch time - good thing too I am starving ! :o

We have a veggie patch although didnt do too well last year as we moved off the smallholding to civilisation at a crucial time of their growth. Its more OH's thing and he was a bit gutted but at least all the beds are ready now for this year and the chooks are currently being allowed into the fenced off section to have a scratch around which they love! :D I bought OH a book for Christmas telling him what to plant when so hopefully this year will be a better year for him.

Have a good weekend everyone :D
  • Morning everyone.

Well this week's task is to order the seeds for the coming year. My soil is coming this week too to make up a new veggie patch and I want to use some of the home made compost but that is going to be a nightmare as I need to take the darlek off it and turn it over - a job for the weekend.

I have checked my day to day balance this morning and all is well. Tidied an account up so £2.46 to loan this morning - will probs be more this afty but I have left my online banking thing at home!

I need to pay for the dog to go to the vets too as he is poorly with his ears again.

Today will be a NSD (unless I can get into the vets) and I have everything for tea there so all is good. Spicy spag bol as it's tasty and quick. I have my packed lunch too so reasonable organised!

I am still trying to do 1 non standard job at least 4 days of the week. Today is to sew a hem on a curtain that's needed doing for ages but I've been putting off.

Hope everyone is ok and looking forward to a debt busting week!

Hi how are you doing? That idea about a non standard job is a good one. W have such a backlog of those types of things that it's depressing at times! I may borrow that one if you don't mind..although it may be a try to do one of those a week rather than every 4th day!

If you're a member of an allotment group or you find a gardening group in your area you may be able to swap seeds etc and even get eome freebies. there are usually too many in the packets aren't there ( unless it's tomatoes grr) or some people manage to keep and dry them. Worth asking around..

    Cheers

I love the non-standard job idea too!

I have a lot of things I've been putting off and I'm definitely going to adopt this!

Good luck with the curtain hem! I think it's a great challenge DF, I think I should do it too, as I'm always putting things off :o

  • Hi guys,

That's exactly why I started doing the non standard job thing. I had so many things I kept thinking "I must do that" and never did that it was getting to me. So I have made a list of things that make me feel like this inc windows, hems, wardrobe, bag up chairty stuff that's hidden in cupboard and so on - some will take longer than others so I have said I will do 30 mins whilst cooking tea/kids in bath and do what I can in that time. If I don't finish it (which I usually do as once started it I get the bug) then I will do part 2 of it the next night. It's making me feel so much better about things and alot more organised.

Thanks to Beccie saying she is going to ebay 10 things by the end of the week - I said I would too! So this will become part of my non standard job - photo all one night and put on pc, then list them next night so 2 nights to do it but i will get it done.

It's works for me so far :)

brizzled - thanks for the tips re seeds - exactly right - you always get too many. In fact - I think I will share with Dad as he does plenty too.
