Still 75p tonight.
No, back up to 75p tonight. I checked when antrobus posted they were 66p and they were 66p online, and instore the next day.
They were 66p on Sunday, I bought a tin and tried them last night. They were OK for 66p so went back for more today only to find they were back up to 75p.
This just proves antrobus was right, they are just matching prices with asda.0 -
I'm sure butter (along with tuna) is another product held artificially high, and 'price matched' by supermarkets. It wasn't all that long ago that Sainsbury's butter was about 50p a pack. Now even the value stuff is about £1.20 coincidentally at ALL the major supermarkets. Yet milk, it's base ingredient remains at a relative low, stable price.........0

I'd have thought that the best time for supermarkets to increase their prices, so that they establish a high price to discount against later, is early January.
That's the time we are all eating what's left over from the Festive Fortnight and, so, buying the least in the stores. This means that not only do the supermarkets gain extra margin on goods to counteract a reduced sales volume but they also upset fewer customers with the price increases.
As an example of overpricing, I went into one of Sainsbury's mini stores just before Christmas and found the small brown Warburton sliced loaves at 2 for £2.20 - they didn't show a price for one-only. The standard price for these in all main supermarkets is 70p each and even my corner shop sells them for 75p.0 -

I have found John West tuna chunks in brine for 50p a tin at a local cash and carry. The only thing is, it was out of date in June 2011. Do I care, no do I heck. I know this information is no good to people outside this area, but the moral of the story is to shop around. I invest my time in searching out cheap outlets. If you see any cash and carry signs outside grotty looking warehouses, stop and have a look. I'm off now to stock up on more tuna fish.My cats will love me, getting the posh stuff.

Generally Tesco Pure Clear Honey (the standard stuff), 454g, price generally £1.54-1.68 over last year, in stores around New Year it was £1.89 and in Express branches, £1.97 - we're not *that* short of bees!
Sainsbury have cut the equivalent down to the same 340g as the value jar and charge approx. £1.30 for it. Both value versions remain 99p, but hopefully Asda will ride to the rescue with the price that I'm used to. I haven't been into either shop since Christmas without a voucher or using Nectar, and the next stop is this Sunday with another Mail rewards fiver off and a till spit.
So to give T their due, they're trying to balance it out but I now have a much bigger list of items I get from other stores if I need a midweek re-stock and set honey probably lasts longer if you have to chip away at it0 -
Problem is tesco and asda are price matching on essential staples and value.
Their super offers usuallally on processed stuff like pop/crisps , non foods ext or luxury items.
sainsburys is also pricematching on tesco too they like a cartel.
even with them all having baby events right now their value wipes still 46p and saisburys upped value fromage frais from 44p to 50p to match tesco.
I rarly do asda so notice saisburys pricematching tesco on things I buy.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

The Tesco by me - Canonmills, Edinburgh - is looking increasingly tired and shabby and many things have increased in price lately beyond what is acceptable, really.
I don't think Tesco can really fool anyone with their price rises - they're beginning to resemble the Co-op for poor value.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.
