Tesco price increases

The latest, which I think went up last week, was for a 500g jar of Cafe Blend coffee whitener - on sale for many months at 99p (much, much cheaper than the next cheapest brand, Tescos own) this has now, in one single leap, gone up to . . . . £2.34 - a rise of £1.35! I know this is just one of many incredible price hikes, but this is one that I have spotted recently (well it almost leapt off the screen at me). When shopping around isn't an option (and for many it isn't), do we just have to grin and bear it? They get away with it because they can.
I was in store yesterday and went to buy some and like you couldn't believe it had gone up from 99p to £2.34, it is now 16p dearer than the brand leader "Coffee Mate", whilst I am happy with the product it is not that good, after all it one of Tescos' Discount Range but is now the dearest Coffee Whitener in store!
I can only assume in a few weeks we will see it on special at half price or bogof!
I emailed customer service yesterday and today received a phone call from stating that they had been selling it at a lost, when I asked if was it would soon be on special all I got was "I can't comment on that" the same answer I got to any question I put to them.
I for one have had enough of Tesco treating us as idiots and whilst my £80 odd a week spend won't affect them it will make me feel better.0 -
With reference to my last post about Tesco Discount Brand Coffee Whitener here are two replies I received on Twitter from them:-
"We do our best to offer the best value for money and our buyers and development teams do their very best to keep these costs down."
"Unfortunately we are no longer able to absorb the cost of supply on this item and this is the reason for the increase."
Then obviously their buyers are not doing a very good job if they have to sell their budget range item for more than they sell the brand leader!0 -

But it will, your £80 (£4160 a year plus what ever you spend over xmas )a week along with other shoppers who are piddled off with them, will soon mount up and be noticed..
I have also stopped shopping in tesco... so there is another £60-£100 a week.Work to live= not live to work0 -
If OH wasn't addicted to the cheese rolls in Tesco Express he'd never go in there. I loathe Tesco. The delivery service is useless, the offers are mostly on snack food and the pricing is just sneaky..0

Yep, have noticed this one in my local Tesco too. So I got the equivalent in Sainsbury's for 25p instead.
I'm finding I have to go elsewhere for more and more things that I used to get cheap in Tesco.0 -
Tesco have annoyed me over the years we lived in Epping. Continual hikes ended up with me only buying offers in the end. Fruit and veg for our son was of poor quality and we thought our fridge wasnt working as the stuff would go off so quick. Since we moved up north the only thing I have been back for was the value cat litter. Last week we found it has been rebranded essentials and the price has gone up by 50%.
Time to cash in my vouchers and say bye bye Tesco.
On top of this the staff got less and less professional and the aisles were more cluttered with litter and packaging and breakages. They even started playing weird garage dance music in the Epping shop on a regular basis.0
