    Massively...

My campervan cost £1,250 to have enhancements at the garage (I'd planned it to be £850). Then subsequent investigation of problems cost an additional £135, then £50 and now £300 having broken down in France  Luckily I had RAC comprehensive breakdown cover so £300 is all I've had to pay (they've put me up in hotels, transported me to my destination etc).

I also had to pay £300 for my car's service and £700 for insurance, because rather than sell it to a stranger I let my sister keep hold of and use it. I also gave her my furniture (waterbed, sofa etc) rather than sell it, and moved it to her house.

It's been a very sudden toll on my savings :o

On the financially luckier front though, I made an extra £190 by house-sitting, I got my annual commission from work at £1,100 and my cat disappeared... doesn't come close to breaking even but it does help.

Bad start to the year - immediately before Christmas someone kindly broke into my car & caused enough damage for it to be written off. The insuarance company have paid out, but they tell me, despite the heavy extra payment I make to have protected no-claims, my renewal (due December) will be considerably higher as I have now had a "fault" claim (apparently in the car insurance world you are to blame for the actions of others). Managed to get another car, & borrowed one to get to work over Christmas (saved my job, thanks sis!), but had to pay out more in public transport cost, a higher rate of car tax & an extra payment on my insuarance to change the car.
Now, after a new fuel pump & 4 new tyres all seems to be ok.
All my appliances running ok at present, & luckliy there are many decent charity & second hand shops around my area.
Oh, & I just found out I have a very desirable bottle of malt, so am looking at auctions & private buyers (I am not talking E-Bay, Bonham's is on my list). Maybe things are looking up, now where did I put that lotto ticket.....

Broken down boiler - £2400 and now the car tyres badly need replacing soon.
New years plan is to start up a little emergency fund as we always end up borrowing to pay for stuff like this.
  • £800 on car repairs.

Wheel bearing was going on car, garage said it wouldn't be more than £150, fine, I had the money, it went in yesterday and its £320  Apparently the wheel bearing on my car is not a simple remove and replace job but comes as part of the ABS as a complete unit. Have managed to scrape together all but £40 of it.

Was told that the exhaust will need replacing within the next 2 months but sooner rather than later plus definitely need 2 new tyres before the MOT at the end of June :(

And - I clonked the bumper back in the summer and it's close to falling off and to replace will be several hundred pounds as it needs to be specially made and colour coded

    I think I'll get myself a bike!!
It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :j
