I had to spend £500 on a new washing machine and dryer, £160 on the bloody car to fix it then £140 to tax it (not unexpected though) and yesterday a stone cracked my windscreen on the motorway, so insurance excess too! Damn it!

If it's a simple crack then the auto screen people might be able to fix it for free.

Another one with a vets bill - vet called out just before christmas but bill arrived last week. £565 in total but it does cover 3 different call outs. The second two I shared with someone else so reduced call out fee!
  • over the last 2 months my little old dog has cost me £160 in insurance excess and today £270 which prob wont be covered by the insurance as its her heart and its only a 12month policy, with the poss of needing a MRI next week too. she is worth every penny though, just hope she will be ok

Fingers crossed we have not been too bad soo far.

The Fridge freezer died just before Xmas and much to the missus' disbelief the internet proved itself to not just be 'somewhere to chat with your imaginary friends' as 30 mins later I had pulled the control panel apart and fixed it with a bit of tape and a soldering iron!

Got a slow puncture on the car atm which needs sorting but I have friends in the motor trade so fixing it is just a case of getting the wheel over to them on there lunch break and the cost of a pack of Giant Chocolate buttons!

Fingers crossed thats it as 2012 is my year to try and sort the finances out for once and for all!

My insurance doesn't cover accidental damage! But I have heard back from the and the worst case scenario is a total write off at around £85. Still more than I want to pay (!) but phew....

if they write it off ask to keep it big screw and no nails glue and you have one ugly ish............ but usable violin

without screw even no nails glue would not work when strings tight

  • dana's vet bill ended up being closer to £400 for yesterday alone plus the £160 in excess for the last 2 conditions so been a very expensive month for me. thankfully i have an emergancy fund set aside just for dana so not had to borrow to pay. gonna try to get some back on the insurance but not really holding out much hope on that as all the tests were heart related and she has had her 12 months of that so its exempt now, vet said he will do some creative writing to try to help.

turns out my old bean has a leigion on her brain thats been causing the fits, not gonna put her through massive invasive surgery at nearly 15 years old so she is on steriods for the rest of her days to keep her comfortable. she had most of her teeth out while she was out too so dont have to pay for 2 general anasthetics so saved abit there. she is a little trooper though, recovering well and worth every penny

Awww, hope she continues to bring you love for a while yet :) My oldie is 14 or 15, and he's an absolute star.

One for me today. Uber Toothache. Emergency appointment booked, but it's private, so is going to cost £'s. Hopefully something easily fixed... fingers crossed!

Kiwikaz your gas and leccy is way too high!
There must be something you can do to reduce that. Do you know what's made it so high? Is there an error somewhere in the meters or something?

    Hi,

Phoned EDF and they said that according to them we are only being charged for one meter. Hmmm. Not really convinced and she did say it does happen.
I'm going to turn all appliances off and see if the meter then still runs.
Also I do think they need to come and check the meter regardless.
May be an idea to check all wattage of all those apliances too I guess.
We did have about 30 halogen lights which I found out cost a fortune. We ve now changed most of those with new energy saving bulbs and fittings.
I am at home all day but I'm concerned about our consumption and therefore turn off the heating and appliances where I can. I only use the microwave and slow cooker and cook on the hob which is gas.
My husband does like to be warm ! We did get 2 thermostatically controlled oil radiators which we were advised to get when we were with Npower. We ve not got a gas fire as that conked out so we ve not had that fixed because we were told that would use a lot of gas.
Very much in a pickle re this as you can imagine.
I'm going over to the utilities board to check out any hints and tips.
Realistically we cant sustain this payment level. It's more than our mortgage and has been going on for over 2 years. We did end up with a huge bill a good while ago and have paid off the arrears we owed and are now upto date. Our payments tho still remain high.
    Thanks for replying.
Off to see what more I can do . :(
