Clutch has gone on car looking at approx £300 for a KA annoying as haven't been able to drive for 5 weeks as had baby by Csection and when I can in another week still can't afford to have motor fixed..
Nothing but bills right now..I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...0 -
hubbys car has just had mot and cost 350 pounds, the exhaust will need replacing soon as well which will be about the same again! They've welded it for now so it should last a few months hoefully.
V sadly our lovely 17 yr old dog is being put to sleep today, i am heartbroken, but it is definately time for him. Don't know what it will cost or to have him cremated and returned to us but will have to come out of our savings, v sad house today

Just on a bit of a byline note have you thought about trying to do it yourself.
I know you can;t always fix everything but last year the over packed up twice, dryer twice, washer twice, child dsi once, tv once, car steering rack
Did a guesstimate at Christmas and this would have cost over £1000 to fix however we fix all of these for the grand total of £132.00.
The internet has become a great place for do it yourself. There has been a lot swearing and cursing but sometimes there is no point paying someone else for the joy of fixing it!
The example was the tv. Currys quoted £50 call out and parts and labour on top. So we went on the internet found the instruction and got the parts for 66p and hey presto once fixed tv.
:T I take my hat off to you!
neither me nor arer particularly practical. Next time something breaks I will try to be! Our kettle broke about a year ago - the on button spring went and I was all set to throw it out but oh decided to fix it and 10 mins later it was done
no unexpected outlay for me this year although I seem to have spent more than I had hoped to. Have been having a bit of a rough time at work so I keep "treating" myself. Need to pull in my reins!DF as at 30/12/16

Hi everyone
My DVD player has finally packed up, but it was 9 years old so can't complain. At least it is the sales so I'm going to pick one up cheaply. Only thing is my TV is also 6 years old and only has SCART sockets so I have to find a way of connecting it. The salesman in Currys informed me that most people change their TVs every couple of years!!!!0 -

Unbelievable! My TV is 10 years old and never gone wrong and I refuse to replace it until it totally gives up on me and would cost more to repair than replace.
I picked up a DVD player a couple of years ago in Tesco. Cost £30 and it's a known make and it's fine for me.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

A new integrated dishwasher for me (189.00) and a lovely letter from HMRC yesterday telling me I owed then £600 from 2010/11. I changed jobs and apparently my employers (or ex employers I dont know) messed up my tax

Finally scraped up the £60 to take my laptop into the computer shop, it did an update a few months back, went bluescreen and totally refused to finish rebooting. Spoke to the guy in the shop while he plugged it in and had a poke around at it and he said it needed a reinstall of windows and quoted me between £45 and £80 to fix, depending on how long it took to reinstall everything. 9 days later he phones me and says it's ready.... £120
Ok so I sort of knew it wasn't going to be cheap to fix but I was a bit shocked to get told that it was the hard-drive that needed to be replaced so the guy had done it (£75) and reinstalled the windows and all the other bits (£45) and now wanted £120. He wasn't happy when I had to explain he'd have to wait another 4 days before I could get the extra money, if it had only been an extra £20 I could of borrowed the money off my other half.
So now it's a belt tightening fortnight, mmm how many ways can I think of to cook mince:rotfl: but at least I can take my time trying to work my way through the ECDL book without hearing the plaintiff cry of 'are you finished yet, is it my turn?'
O and apparently the hard-drive the guy fitted is a 500gb sata hd, anyone know how and where I check for this info on Win XP?? At some point before xmas i loaned a couple of my xp books out and it may be a couple of weeks before i get them back, and I'd sort of like to be sure about what was done to the machine (I'm not a technophobe but it's close:o)Ebay Bag a Day Challenge........4/5Ditch 100 Challenge..... Well I'm expecting a blow with the MOT at the end of the month. I'm guessing at least new tured, possibly new wiper motor, and I've been having probs with the alternator....
On past unexpected expenses....housemate used to be in charge of paying rent. I paid him half each month, he paid letting agents. Until we got a letter on our doorstep saying that we had two weeks to find £950 because we were two months in arrears. He completely blanked me about it, so I found the money (I still dont quite know how I managed it...) but yeh. That won't be happening again!Debt free on 2nd January 2015Next savings goals:£5k emergency fund£4k holiday of a lifetime fund0
