  • December was bad for me - £870 to get car fixed and £500 on old sewerage drains collapsing (and that was just the replacement bits, hubby did the work)! Needless to say both have had to be added to the plastic :(
    Jan 2012: CC £2,340.30, 2nd mortgage £22,932, Mortgage £57,538

Not so much unexpected things but I have a lot of big bills this month that I wouldn't nrmally have due to DS2 PGL school trip and a repayment plan for the next few months due to a supposed underpayment in tax:( So I have had to do some major rejuggling of the budget. For the most of my DFW journey I had no spare money to put away for an emergency but if you can do its a good idea.

I am sure something will crop up soon as it normally always does in January and I find that most things come in 3's.

Forgot to add that we need to replace some fence panels.

  • In the space of 2 months last year we needed
    a new toilet (£135)
    fridge freezer repairs (£120)
    car repairs (£365)
And I think my washing machine is on its way out
We don't have an emergency fund, but we do have a wedding fund (we're getting married this year), which is severely depleted at the moment.

January is always our highest spending month, as we’ve geared lots of annual expense into the month (all budgeted).

Unexpected – 2 new tyres for the car. I On 3rd Jan., when going shopping, found one tyre near flat, and another well down – turned out to be 1 screw through 1, and 2 small punctures in the other. Topped up the air at our very local garage and drove (slowly) to local tyre place (used for many years, good value).

    Total cost for 2 tyres (W rated) = £322

Wasn’t happy at the time but later reflected that, had one chosen to go at an inopportune time, I could have had a bad smash – and my health / life is worth much more.

  • Oh dear.

    My hugs to everyone. :grouphug::grouphug:

I had no idea so many people would be posting things within such a short space of time. You all have my sympathies!

Sorry to hear of ill pets and all manner of disasters, but as Hudswell has said, our health and that of those around us is more important than £. So let's keep :):D as much as we can.

£750 on vets bills and rising (although hopefully pet insurance will cover the majority of this, minus the food and £120 excess, but on C card so timing is of the essence)
new clutch on car - actually clutch bought already, and ended up paying a very cheap labour rate, but was hoping this would go later in the year not January!
washing machine broke - foxed by hubby but paid for parts
solar panel invertor knackered so not generating leccy

Just on a bit of a byline note have you thought about trying to do it yourself.

I know you can;t always fix everything but last year the over packed up twice, dryer twice, washer twice, child dsi once, tv once, car steering rack

    .

    So true, camuk.
I tried to fix the fridge myself. Bought a new thermostat but it didn't do the trick. My dad took a look at it and he couldn't fix it either. But at least we tried!:rotfl:

Drain issues that will no doubt be laid at our door to cover the cost for. Got a puncture whilst back home for a few days, and tyre place found the other front tyre was bald on the inside so I had to shell out for 2 new tyres. Didn't budget for those little extras.

Daughter dropped her brand new ipod touch so will have a repair charge for that too. Can't say I'm full of joy at the moment.

A £300 car mot, thats after I put four new tyres on before it went!!!!!!!!!

Being at the start of a DMP we have no emergency money so are working our bums off with over time and ebay, this will then continue to attack our debts.

Dreading our MOT (25th jan) as car makes the most horrendous noises at times. Car tax also due...*sigh*
