Does anyone else's Mam forget your name!

  • Yes, I think it's pretty universal. I have called one of my sons by the dog's name. We also have 4 boys in the family whose names all begin with R so they accept now that any one of those names will do and they are pretty much interchangeable. The only reason I can come up with is that mothers are so busy multi tasking that we work on auto pilot half the time ??

My goodness and I thought it was just me who did this. I have a girl and a boy and I often called them by each other names and at times I have called my Daughter by my sisters name too.

It must be a Mum thing.
  • How funny, this must be very common!LOLOLOLO

My father use to be like that too! Once I made him figure out just exactly who I was before I would go and fetch him a cup of coffee one moring. As I handed it to him I said, my lord, you only have three kids, one of which is male surely it cant be that difficult to remember my name!

After that, he referred to anyone who walked past him when he wanted a cup a coffee as 'whoever the hell you are! please could I have a cup of coffee!) we were most amused, we would respond by getting the coffee and when handing to him replying, 'here you go...whoever you are!:)LOLOL)

My Mum gets around it by calling us all the same.
    She'll shout "eeh you"
Just need to ask then. is it eeh you me? or eeh you her ?

Ha! You're all amateurs ;)! I actually called my DS MY name a few weeks back. DH was not amused when I ran through the kids names and then the cat before giving up and saying "You know who you are!" when I was trying to get his attention :o.

Many mothers do it, and they often include the names of the dog and cat as well.

Do you live next door to me?????

yep - my mam does it too - and at the sunday family get-together - when she gets a name wrong we all chime in 'hugh, pugh, barney mcgrew, cuthbert, dibble and grub'! (its from an old childrens programme - cant remember which one? camberwick green?).

    Very close.

    Trumpton.

Lost count of the number of times I was called Carol. Annoying, isn't it? :D

  • My nan used to do this. She had 5 grandkids and I was the youngest, so she used to list them all before getting to my name. She did it for as long as I knew her and never developed into anything more worrying.

I also have a friend whose about 40 who does the same thing, but she does enjoy a drink LOL

She was also beautifully deaf, you'd ask her if she wanted a cup of tea and she'd look at her watch and reply "half past two!".

    Memories :-)

My mum does this and it drives me nuts. She'll call my son by my brother's name (well they do look alike I suppose) and she'll run through the whole family before getting my name right.

On a couple of occasions hubby has referred to me by his ex-girlfriend's name, which is a bit weird considering that he hasn't seen her in about 12 years, but ho hum...
