Don't boilers have a powerful & noisy fan and a water pump too?
Surely a loft site will sent a lot of noise in the bedrooms?

Not sure if its any use but just had our local mag through and the back page is a full page ad for yourplumber.co.uk

They look like a national and are doing a 'new year offer' of a Worcester bosch greenstar condensing boiler supplied and fitted for £1900 plus vat and it comes with a free programmer.

(24i junior combi, with wireless controls and a power flush)

They are checkatrade approved and while the number is local think its a national promotion.

And its has 5 years parts and labour warranty.

    Cheers,

I think nearly 4 grand for a boiler install is OTT aswell mate. When you think the boiler your after is around 900, a Fernox TF1 filter Installer's Pack is around 110, copper pipeing and connections around 200 max, wireless stat 100 max and a power flush should be about 300.
So that's a total of 1610! Even If other bits & bobs took it up to 2 grand that's still 1700 in the pocket for a couple of days work
    Not bad ah !

CheckATrade is a way for a company to advertise itself, it does not tell you much about the quality of the company.

My WB 30CDI is not noisy, it is rather quiet. There is a sort of hum when it is heating. If it was in the loft, attached to joists, I might expect the wood to dampen sound, but I might be wrong.

Personally I would not have it in the loft, unless the loft had easy access, with boards over the joists. Walking in my loft makes me uncomfortable. And when I had people walking around in the loft, cracks opened up in several ceilings, including a new one. I am quite happy with the boiler in the kitchen, as it only takes up the space of a cupboard, and access is much easier, so I can check the pressure easily to make sure it is okay.

  • I too am a rather uneasy about it going in the loft and would much rather it was in the kitchen.

It is just the fact we are extending and will be changing the outside wall so the boiler will need moving in about a year when we do that.

Does anyone know how big a cost/expense it would be to move the boiler at a later date?

Also is there risk of damage and making the warranty invalid by moving it?

It could go in the old airing cupboard, as the water tank will no longer be there. You lose at least half the cupboard space, although you might be able to have shelves below it, or even above it. I'd make them removable.

  • Did consider in the airing cupboard but that is in a childs bedroom and that makes me very nervous.

I know everyone I have spoken to about it says its perfectly safe if you have a carbon monoxide alarm in there but still dont feel great about the idea.

Won't these type of boilers be room sealed? Therefore no intake air or exhaust will come out into the room?

I once had a boilder moved from a kitchen wall to the adjacent garage wall external to the main house building, due to the droning vibration the boiler fan was making that went straight into the bedroom above. Actually the noise was pretting annoying in the kitchen too.
