Cost of Boiler Installation seems OTT

I have been quoted £3700 for a worcester bosch greenstar 30 cdi boiler including fitting in the loft. This is to replace a conventional system which was located in the kitchen.

The guy said it is fairly straightforward as the position in the loft will be directly above the kitchen area.

This price includes wireless thermostat downstairs, power flush and cleaning filter or whatever its called. Also removal of water tank and hot water cylinder.

I think this price sounds a bit OTT. But i have had another chap round who quoted similar. [We are in the south east not too far from watford area.]

Any advice appreciated
Thanks

Don't let them take the cylinder and copper away! You will get around 100 quid for that at the scrappie.

For what it's worth I paid about £2700 for the same boiler, to be installed in the kitchen, pipes chased into the wall, and removing the old boiler and plinth. Your quote sounds pricey to me. I am near Basingstoke i.e. not a cheap area.

I recently paid £4000 for the same boiler and new cylinder. Like you I had mine re-sited to the loft. The £4000 also including plumbing in a new bathroom.

I kept all the old copper though and sold it on.

At that price it would be worth your while ringing British Gas
    see what they quote

I went on the federation of master builders site
found a local plumber very reasonable quote

why not buy your own boiler and pay for it to
be fitted perhaps you can save that way

  • Thanks for the input, I will try and get some more quotes.

Also just so I am clear, what qualifications/accreditation does a plumber need to install a boiler? Is it corgi? Or can anyone who calls themselves a plumber do it?

Because I think someone said you legally need paperwork completed when they have done the job.

Hi...see Gas Safe Register. More on central heating installations here.

Which is in the ballpark of others experiences for similar installations so its probably of the correct order but you must get two other independent quotes to be certain as you said earlier this morning.

I think what you really mean is that its higher than you were expecting/hoping not that its higher than it should be for this job. Not quite the same thing..
But i have had another chap round who quoted similar.
    There you go then.

Nope it isn't - still exists, largely as a commercial operation, but hasn't maintained the Gas Register for 3 years this coming April. See CH link above.

  • No keystone, i had heard reports of people getting it done quite a bit cheaper in comparable areas of the south east. Nothing to do with my perception of the job.

To be honest from the people who have replied it has confirmed my thoughts that the job might be a bit overpriced.
