    Hiya
Only just read this thread, sorry to hear about Moxie's accident but really pleased he's home with you. We had two brothers who both had dislocating knee caps from birth. They had to stay in a cage for 6 weeks after operations to correct it and had no further problems until last week - so it was fine for 12 years! Mind you, the one who has the problem back is now diabetic, arthritic and as demanding as anything! Cuddles to Moxie.

Lovely to read that he is back home, mine would hate being in a cage too but at least you can keep taps on him.
Sending all the best to Moxie from my Eric.

  • So glad Moxie is home! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

So after taking my kitty Dolly to the vets last week and shelling out £65 for antibiotics, antiinflammatories and such she made a great recovery.

A minute ago she limped past me in some pain and when DH and I had a look she has a big thorn in her pad....she wouldn't let us pull it out (picture yelling and fur flying).

So it looks like I'm going have to pay the vet another visit...grrrrr!!

Moxie is home! But he's very miserable being in the cage. He keeps crying all the time and trying to climb up the sides. He was actually hanging off the top just now, he's so desperate to get out! I've got him in the lounge cos I thought it would be better for him than stuck in a bedroom, but I'm not sure I can stand the crying all the time. It's awful. Final bill - £442!!! And still haven't received the claim form from Direct Line. Will chase them tomorrow. But still the main thing is that he is OK. My helpful neighbour came with me to pick him up and set up the cage for me. She'll be popping in from time to time to check on his progress so that's all good. And she said she had something she can give me to help with his stress - happy pheromones. I could do with some of those!

aww moxie... good news at last... i hope he calms down and makes a full recovery :) ouch at the vet bill... he is worth it though i bet :D

No you don't need to do that, grab Dolly, and wrap her in a warm towel really tightly, so that she feels very secure, and use a pair of sterile tweezers to pull the thorn out..simple.
I have 2 cats, Juicy lucy, and Princess Friday, and i am always doing kitty first aid on them LOL!:rotfl:
  • And if she'll let you, clean it with salt water, the best thing to clean a wound with! Even if you just dunk her paw in a small bowl of it.

1 teaspoon of salt to a pint of water, and try to do it twice a day. If any pus appears she will need anti-biotics I'm afraid, and puncture wounds are difficult to clean, but its worth trying.

Good news fro Moxie, your neighbour will probably bring Feliway, a cat pheromone that you can spray around the cage, or there is a plug in diffuser too. It releases the happy pheromones that they rub onto furniture etc and can help in stressful situations. I use the diffuser all the time for my cats!

  • So pleased to hear your cat is ok. I know how you feel about the keeping wild animal in a cage thing! We brought my mum a bengal for her birthday, and within a month of letting him out he got hit by a car and couldnt walk. He obviously was still very young kitten and we had to do the same with him. He had to stay in a tiny cage for 4 weeks and not let out at all in that time, with a litter tray and food all in the cage with him. It was because if he tried to jump etc he could do more damage to himself (I imagine this is the same reason for your cat to be caged!) The vet was not convinced at all that he would even recover and thought he might have damaged the nerves in his back beyond repair and thought that after the weeks of rest in the cage, he still might have had to return to be put to sleep. Very stressful time.

Be patient with it - my mum's kitten made a FULL recovery, although it was stressful keeping him caged for that time (he was desperate to escape!) He is now a fully grown active cat. (and is a little more road cautious because of his accident).

Hugs to you and your Moxie xx Hope his time 'behind bars' goes quickly!

Got home tonight to mayhem! He's manged to knock his litter tray over, contents everywhere! But on the plus side, he's eating really well and has been to the loo so all good. He seems to be getting more used to the cage now and is only complaining a bit. Got the claim form today from Direct Line - one question, it says (on the bit the vet has to fill in) date of last routine vaccination/booster. He's not vaccinated. Is that a problem? I always worry that insurance co's look for any reason not to pay up.

Our dog is insured with Petplan, and part of the terms and conditions of the policy is that her vaccinations are kept up to date.

I'm glad Moxie is getting used to his cage and complaining less !!!!!
