  • I think our country is taking this too far, I have been to tunisia and turkey on holiday and obviously have been to swimming pools there. guess what the muslim men and woman were in the pool mixing with every other culture that was there on holiday.

I firmly beleive in the saying ''when in Rome do as the Romans do''.

our councils and gov't are way to scared of this political/religious/sexist correctness they wonder why there is rascism on our streets and gay people getting beat up etc if everyone lived in one community then they should all use the same rules and if people dont like it then dont use it.

We live in a council house that is being brought up to code because the conditions are illegal, should all be done in 6 weeks. We have had no kitchen for 3 weeks, cooking on a washing machine. Bathroom has plaster falling off the walls, so impossible to have a dencent bath (which I was getting electrocuted off for 3 days)

We had to life the carpets upstairs because there was dog hair on them and the electrician complained (I dont think they have heard of hoovers) and now he is refusing to work till the floorbords have been sanatised proffeshionally. The council are saying they dont have enough funds to redecorate the house properly (Ie no re-plastering, redecoration properly ect) but yet they can waste money doing this even though everyone but the electrician have said the floors were fine.

I am jsut at the end of my teather now, been like this for 3 weeks so far, and just fed up with it to the hilt.

The council here refurbished our close, it took 2 years!!! It was absolute hell, they botched everything up, they left pipes and wires sticking up on my living room floor after ripping a cupboard out, my little boy who was nearly 2 at the time fell on them and had to have stitches in his lip. Then upstairs in the water tank cupboard there was a hole on the floor into my living room where the baby could have fell down, everything was dangerous, we shouldn't really have been living here while it was being done

Oh and we got £150 to redecorate the whole house.
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D

    Back to the original subject.

I wonder if a muslim/asian man was in the pool during mother and baby time would they have asked him to leave?

And what do you think would be the result if they did??

if there were kids lessons in the main pool then it's obvious that your husband is going to be getting into the baby pool - otherwise why would he be paying an entry fee? that's so stupid - the staff should have told him when he tried to pay that he wouldn't be allowed to swim during that particular session.

i wonder what happens for muslim schoolchildren? do they go swimming with school?

i think it's fair enough to have a women-only session once a week as long as it's timetabled and clearly on show to anyone looking at the session times (or paying to get in - what muppets those staff must be!). but to allow him to pay and get into the pool and then kick him out is ridiculous!

is the women-only rule really for muslim women or is it that they think men might look at the schoolkids? our pool doesn't let anyone in when the kids are learning - not even mums with babies.

the main pool was divided up with half given over to swimming lessons and half to general swimming, it was only the baby pool that was women only not the main pool.

  • If only we lived nearer. My husband would quitehappily come along to this session for a dads sit-in!

He also gets very wound up by the lack of baby facilities available for men to use, and has on a few occasions out of principle taken our little one when she needs changing or feeding and told staff he's going into the ladies! (he's very polite about it to any ladies btw, and would never intrude on anyone breastfeeding, etc). I also have a close friend who is at home with his little girl half the week and has found it very isolating over the years because of the way men are treated at baby sessions, etc
hey there's no money but we couldn't be happier if we tried
    £2 coin pot - £92!

I'm going to buck the trend a little here - I'm not Muslim btw, just an ordinary white woman who doesn't much like to wander round in public wearing very little. I much prefer women only sessions and tend to go swimming when it's less likely that there will be men in the pool and if given the option of women only sessions I choose them every time. It seems that the problem in this case was the usual lack of communication about what the session 'mother and baby' means. If it's made clear from the beginning then it would avoid a) spoiling the family moment and b) being made to feel like a perv for being asked to leave. IMO the problem is not the policy but in managing the policy.
  • I think they need to have a look at there policies and change the name of the swim session to parent and toddler!!! My partners son doesn't have a mother as she died, my OH would throw an absolute fit if this happened to him!!!! Women who don't want to expose there bodies to men, can but swimsuit that don't show there legs/arms off, and also attend womens only sessions! But they seriously need to look at their policies!!!!
