In this age of political, sexual, racial and religious correctness, we've only ourselves to blame for contributing to, encouraging and accepting these situations.

We're too afraid to say 'No'. OP - why didn't / couldn't your husband - say 'No - I'll get out if someone objects'.

I'm sorry but this sort of thing incenses me - if this had happened to me and my DH I think they'd have ended up having to get the police to remove me!!! And as for women not "exposing" themselves in front of men, that to me says "I'm not "exposing" myself to your husband as he's a pervert" which I've got no tolerance with unfortunately. Not that I hold with religion in general anyway.

I agree with treets, I think we've just become too tolerant to this sort of thing. And what's sad is that it spoilt the OP's enjoyment of her baby's first trip to the swimming pool.

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

my OH did argue with them but they were having none of it, but he had to get back to work anyway as we went in his lunch hour but they didn't know that.
i am going to write to the pool manager and the council to find out their policy on sexism.
might also send out a letter to the local paper and our MP as well.

Please can you name and shame this pool- I am in Manchester also! I am incensed at this. My husband was a stay-at-home dad until recently and always found it hard that male facilities in swimming pools, shops etc, hardly ever have baby changing areas. He said he will borrow a baby and go for a sit-in there  :D

The Sex Discrimination Act allows them to do this providing that users could reasonably object to members of the opposite sex being there, If the pool is used by a significant proportion of people who for religious or cultural reasons might object. however the pool would have to show this is the case. It would be interesting to see if the lifeguards are male or female.

That sort of thing makes me so angry.
Since when did it become OK to discriminate against men based on religion or cultural reasons?

How can we hope to promote a free, equal and open society if every time someone says but "it's my religion" we bend all the rules.
  • this seems strange if the main pool, viewing area, lifeguards etc. aren't women-only during these times. why on earth didn't the staff tell you when you paid to come in that he wouldn't be allowed in the baby pool?

the main pool is probably too cold. we had to move to the main pool last week after a toddler was sick in the baby pool and it was horrible. my baby is 18 months old so not a tiny baby, but he hated the cold and we had to get out because he was crying and his little teeth were chattering.

at least you got ten minutes in the pool i suppose. little babies wouldn't last much longer than that anyhow. do they provide a list of session times and is the no-men rule clearly stated? maybe there's another lunch time session your husband is allowed to attend?

the pool is castle leisure centre in Bury. there were 2 lifeguards on duty one male and one female, and there was a school swimming session going on in the main pool both boys and girls.
as i was leaving i did pick up a list of the different sessions and it did state that 12 till 1 on a wed is mothers and babies but did not say that it was deff not including men.
you know the more i think about it the more it is winding me up. it's bad enough that he gets funny looks when we go in the feeding room in mothercare but at least no-one says anything to him, but to actually come out and discriminate against him really p***es me off!!

I had a feeling it was castle for some reason, I live like 5 mins walk from it. I have a friend who works there as a life guard.
