Daytime running lights

It's the nature of the forum and since your enquiry is in relation to DRL's then the comments made here are not off topic when bringing up then potential issues.
What relevance does under car neaons have to DRL;'s, and before you say I know it wasn't you that said it but it wasn't relevant to the topic.
You didn't say "as in me personally" in post 13. You made it perfectly clear that being seen was not a priority. Now you are backpeddling.
Again not back peddling, maybe I didn't make myself clear, either way still irrelevant. If i wanted to personally make myself more visible DRL's wouldn't be my first choice,
And they are complaining even more thanks to DRL's and the problems they will cause.
And that is going to be the potential problem when drivers start looking for just a light source, see nothing, and then pull out in front of a vehicle that was there, but they didn't see because they didn't look properly.
Again, thats not down to lights thats down to an individuals ability not to check properly before pulling out, not actually looking properly but merely glancing. People do exactly the same thing to car drivers not just motorcycles the consequences are just usually different
Where did I say that? That's a creation of your imagination, not from what I have said.
I never said or quoted you as saying it but you are acting (coming across) like they are so bright that you won't actually see a car, motorbike or person coming towards you all you will see is this bright white light, and if you can't see a bright white light it'll be safe to pull out, forget the fact you can clearly see a motorbike, car, person or truck coming towards you in the daylight with no lights on.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
Or they could ban drivers who need lights on in the day to help them spot a 1.5 ton of metal that is being driven around.:D
Finally we agree. Thankfully if my problem was not being able to see a 1.5ton of metal being driven around I wouldn't be intending to put daytime lights on my car that have no effect on me as the driver!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

I'm not acting that way at all, it is just your very flawed perception that sees it that way."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Agree to disagree. Personally I don't care if others have DRL's on or not, I would like to say I am pretty observant and with all the cars running them currently I haven't had any hiccups yet. But by having them fitted if it makes some other driver notice that i'm (or my car) there then all the better. If people rely solely on looking at lights instead of observing the road properly then they deserve to have the book thrown at them.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
please dont do what just seen on picking my family up, 54 plate rover travelling towards blackwood town center south wales colour burgendy red with sliver stickers daytime running lights shaped to contour the headlamp at the bottom only these were on!! pitch dark and werent the brightest (cheap brand, ring possably) not very visable at all, if you know this T I T tell them their endangouring themselfs and others and to put at the very least his dipped beam on.
exact reason i think these should be used in a correct manor, and police where possible issue with a fixed ticket upon seeing this disregard.
pitkin i know (hope) you wont misues them like what i whitnessed tonight.0 -

This is one of the reasons a few are so against them, incorrect use. Personally I have no intention what so ever in doing that like I said if I get them I want them wired so they can only be used without other lights and I would never use them as a substitute for other lights. Also some posters have automatically assumed that because someone wants DRL's they would also be using them in the same manner as you have mentioned to look cool. Cool and toyota estate aren't two words I would associate with each other.
Police should be giving points and a hefty fine for such use same with using fog lights when there is no damn fog. Thankfully technology is moving along and I don't think it will be many more years before automatic lighting will be seen in new cars and hopefully remove user error, but thats another debate lol.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
pitkin2020 wrote: »Thanks for decent advice. I was looking more at the bumper fitted kits than the headlights as that just seems a lot of work lol. I have no intention of using them whilst either side or headlights are on so would like a kit that would make sure they aren't on with other lights.
I'll deffo look for an E mark as standard.
One of my mates has fitted them to his MR2, just bolt on LED's in front of his fog lights. They basically work like anything else, you wire then into a positive and negative feed with a switch; when you turn the switch 'on' it completes the circuit and the lights come on. Turn the switch off and it breaks the circuit.

Do you know if they were reasonably easy to fit?? Does he have hos off a switch or off the ignition?

to answer your question everyone has more or less ignored, yes they are easy to fit. the bumper ones are fitted the same as any normal foglamp and wired the same. another tip would be to get a dash push button from a scrappy to fit a in a button blank in your dash and use it as your switch rather than a tacky flip switch provided.
if you dont have fog lamps fitted as standard i would suggest using the fuse box for the fuse to the lamps to protect it. also if it blows you know where the fuse is run to and eaily accessed.0 -

think it's just an on / off switch so he can turn them on and off when he wants.0
