Perhaps because they face sanctions should they end up being sacked or because it they refuse employment?

I wouldn't be surprised by what you say about how they operate, however it is deflecting from the core issue of taking responsibility.

How would a job seeker start work if they are reliant on someone else funding their travel expenses until they get paid? Before you say well the JCP should pay because they are entitled to it, they aren't as it is at the discretion of their adviser.

Or are you saying unemployed people should wait till they get referred to the work programme because then they will become "entitled" to free travel.

When I started work at the JCP I walked the 45 min bus ride every day because I couldn't afford the bus fair until I got paid at the end of the month.

The whole point of the work program is to 'help you get back into work' that's by helping you with expenses to interviews and traveling . Everyone on the work program is told by JSA that we will get a bus pass and new interview clothes if needed . The only thing I needed was grey trousers and and a blue shirt . The bus pass was £45 something I would not afford in any way shape or form . The work program also get £1400.00 per person to help them meet these needs , I only asked for bus fares . Where does the rest go ?

How would you afford travel expenses for work if you got offered a job tomorrow, but didn't get paid for a month?

My post did detail how you could have resolved the situation and I did read your other posts which why I avoided commenting on your inability to find/borrow/sell items for your bus fare.

Right now , from my job seekers allowance . I did not have that option last time though as WL cut my claim early so I did not get my last payment . Hence my lack of money then .

I'm totallu puzzled by this post. Are we really to believe that the DWP are setting up people to start some sort of work programme (I assume for those who've been employed for quite some time), but demand that they come to get travel funds at a time that is clearly bang in the middle of a working day? That make no sense at all. Are we to believe that the employer contacted the DWP, told them that this was a serious problem with them and would have to sack the employee because of this arrangement and the DWP would have told them 'oh well, tough, you'll just have to sack them then'....

That makes no sense to me at all. Surely if such practice is indeed taking place, MPs and the rest need to be informed of this practice asap. I find it hard to believe that this would not have yet been exposed...

The claim would end the day before you start work, so that payment may not be substantial.

    Not the JCP's fault.

Its providers discouraging claimants from being able to claim back travel expenses. Most though wouldn't want the claimant to be sacked because of the financial disincentives, I assume they figure most people wouldn't be silly enough to jeopardize employment.

Easy, spend available funds on weekly bus ticket, call the crisis loan number, 20 minute interview to establish that OP has no other means of funds for food/electricity for family etc, crisis loan awarded and pick in nearest JCP later on same day.

End of the week leave early to go to WL to pick up weeks traveling expenses, with which he could have renewed his travel card.

I mean really how was the OP planning on getting to work if they'd found a job without the providers help?

Most people have to wait for payday and don't rely on the JCP to fund their clothes and transport until they get paid.

Easy, spend available funds on weekly bus ticket, call the crisis loan number, 20 minute interview to establish that OP has no other means of funds for food/electricity for family etc, crisis loan awarded and pick in nearest JCP later on same day. - The ticket would have cost me £13 ,something I did not have at that time . 3 days later yes ,but that money went to food and bills .

End of the week leave early to go to WL to pick up weeks traveling expenses, with which he could have renewed his travel card.- Could not do this and was told this by WL . I was told to pick up my expenses daily . Yes I did ask about this everytime .I could not afford lunches ,how would I be able to afford bus fares ?

I mean really how was the OP planning on getting to work if they'd found a job without the providers help? - Crisis loan , but keep in mind ,the second I joined up WL I was told this avenue was no longer opened to me .

Most people have to wait for payday and don't rely on the JCP to fund their clothes and transport until they get paid - Yes and they get paid monthly , I am and was barely getting by with what I had . But when you sign up for WL you are told you will get help with expenses . The JSA told me that I am entitled to help for my first 4 weeks .

45 minutes by bus . Why are you still asking me about the past? .

45 minutes by bus isn't very far then. since travel times by bus are much longer due to stopping every five minutes at bus stops, and going via c,d,e and f in order to get from a to b. why didn't you walk?
Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

As a matter of interest, could the employer who was so angry on your behalf not have lent you the money for a monthly bus pass and either taken the money from your end month salary or reclaimed it from Working Links?

My work said at the time ' due to you being unable to finish your shifts ,and the hassle WL are giving you ,we think its in our best nature to relieve you of your duties ' Technically I was still in training ,the job may have been offered to me but it was not official yet ,hence my being let go so easily .

As to bringing this to light , people are already doing so and have been doing so since the work program started up . Read Work Programme dot org . This will give you some insight ,I'm reading it between replies , link given by Farzroks

I asked this and was told they did not provide subs . I assume due to the ammount of agencie workers they had coming and going that this was the reason why this option was not possible .
