It may not sound like a very sensible thing to do to anybody who does have a few spare pounds in their pocket, but It's quite possible that the OP had no spare money he could use for fares & stuff, so needed to collect cash each day to enable him to go to work next day. How do we know how far WL was from his workplace & if he would need to pay extra fares to travel there & back should he have decided to try to go during lunch break? Doubt WL would have been willing to refund those travel costs.

It can't be very far if the return fare was only £4!

Not that it's any of your business - but how on earth was I to afford paying £4.00 every day ,when I had no money coming in whatsoever ?

No child benefit, no child tax credit?
  • List items on ebay for one day, receive money the next day. Too long?

There would have been no harm in asking the bank about an overdraft. Had they said no you could then look at other options.

You do not need pay slips and a bank statement to get a payday loan. You can arrange one online in a matter of minutes if you are desperate. Then, with the money you would have collected from the WP provider in the meantime (in one visit), you could have paid it back - no need to wait for payday.

You are finding barriers that do not exist. You need to accept that you messed up, and find a way to make sure it never happens again.

Actually no I'm not . Your just reading the parts you want to read ,then jumping in with your opinions . I did notice the lack of advice .

Ebay - I have nothing of worth that could have been sold for that one day . Nothing anyone would have wanted .

Overdraft - again ,I already was refused . And have been 4/5 times now .

Payday loan - did I tell you that because of all this my bt was cut off ,hence my having no internet , hence being unable to do this on -line . Oh and before you say so ,no internet cafe beside me that stay open late .

WL would not pay in one lump sum ,I tried this ,I tried to get it weekly ,I tried to get them to pay me so I could come back at a better time . They wouldnt .

Now I wont argue with you ,all this has already happened ,it would make no difference now ,I only wanted some pointers or advice on any future steps ,but ,you are all stuck like a broken record on one point that has already happened in August ,this is now January incase you didn't know that .
  • No child benefit, no child tax credit?

Yes I did , but what was I supposed to do ? leave my family with no food ?

This is the work program , I should have been given a weekly pass with no quibble . The Job Centre told me I should have had this too ,yet I wasnt issued one .

The day I started the training course , I had no money at all apart from £4 to get to work . I had no lunch .

On Tuesday I collect CB - £20 - this went to food and electricity . I still had no money for lunches .

I should have been given my last 5 days JSA but due to WL signing me off early ,I didn't get this .

Yet you are still thinking about what happened . I am asking for advice on what is happening 'NOW' not what has already happened .
  • You've got a computer ... They sell very well on ebay. I am guessing you also have/ had a tv, a mobile phone ... quite possibly more than one of each?

No internet cafe between you and work? Surely there was one closer than the 45 minutes you claim to have travelled to get to the WP office? No libraries in your area?

I have given several points of advice, but you keep throwing up non existent barriers. You need to accept that you made a mistake, and you have been sanctioned accordingly. Take it as a learning experience, and stop blaming everyone else.

Your just being ignorant now . I'm going to ignore your comments from now on. Even If I did think of sending in my tv to be sold ,then the point is moot . This has already been an d gone . I just wanted some worthy advice .

What your basically saying is ,that I was to sell the clothes off my back to get to work when a work program is supposed to help you back to work . Now if you have nothing to say on the topic at hand apart from picking at the past ,please dont reply to my thread .

    Okay, you've made a mistake.
Moving on you have to take responsibility that you shouldn't have left work early and explain this to the job centre and try to appeal the sanction.
You could try to get a crisis loan if you are struggling with the basics during your sanction.
Otherwise only other option is to try and get another job, but going to face the same problems again.

In future you need to try to save a few pence a day so have a few quid in a budget for things like getting to work.
Many jobs pay at the end of the month and people have to pay travel and food costs before they are paid.
  • Working Links have contacted me 3 times since August - twice asking me for the money back - and once in October telling me to book an appointment ,I refused to and told them so on the basis that I was currently in talks with my JSA advisor to change WL office due to my treatment . She basically told me ' I'm getting a sanction put on you then' . But in all of this time ,I still have received no letters from WL telling me I had appointments with them .

your words, not mine or anyone elses. you were even warned you had to comply or you would get sanctioned but you ignored her.
you have asked for advice and you are being given it. stop whining and be honest with yourself would be a fair start.
perhaps you were due a buspass , that may be an error on someones part, but why did you then not apply for a crisis loan for your family for food etc from the dwp. that is what they are for, for crisises they do pay those by faster payments by arrangement (iv had one before) , so that could have been arranged in your break being unable to get to jcp and do your shift..

I have been reading the comments to your thread and cant believe some peoples ignorance ,you asked for advice but got shot down and belittled and lectured by people who you dont know when all you asked for was some guidance . Now you know why I dont talk in the threads anymore ,too many people who know very little ,but know you so well to comment on your life .

As to your problem ,a similiar thing happened to my family ,my partner was on the work program and also got a 3 month sanction because he didnt attend interviews but he got no letters to tell him about these apointments .

First thing you should have got was a bus pass ,they should issue you this when you get employment .
    Read this place - http://www.workprogramme.org.uk/comments/7822-jobseekers-allowance.html

They have similiar posters that went through what you did .It took my family 2 months of appealing before we got our sanction took off , we got the money back but not at a time when it was most needed . Dont loose faith stick to your guns and keep appealing ,dont let the posters get you down either as they are just reading bits and pieces and judging you because you sign on and didnt sell your first born child .Dont sell your tv or your kettle to get money for bus fare these work programs get money per person to help you out .

My advice to the posters would be to shut the f**k up and read the actual thread before sticking your amazingly huge noses in and spewing crap while sitting in your comfy wee homes when someone only asked for a bit of help . Im so bloody glad I never asked anyone on here for help when I went through this same thing .

Good luck OP ,I hope you get this fixed!
I once prayed to god for a bike, but quickly found out he didnt work that way...so I stole a bike and prayed for his forgiveness .........

You need to appeal any sanction, you would need to prove your actions were unreasonable, or WL actions were unreasonable.

A large part of that may revolve around how far you had to travel, how far was the workplace from your home?
Do you have any disabilities etc that restrict walking?

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

    Laughable .

Ok where is the advice I'm being given ? Maybe I'm just missing it . Read the bottom of my first post ,where is the advice to my question's ? All I can see is a judgment on my explanation of my situation that happened in the past . Not about what is happening now ,just about the past .
