  • Sorry I don't know.

However if you had lost your card number for a closed account, I may be able to find it for you;)

If I thought someone from my bank was posting the above on a public forum I would be quite annoyed, as I would imagine so would your bosses who also read and post on MSE.

I was wondering about the ethics of this. Whilst I'm sure some may find it useful talking to Barclaybird, rather than Barclays officially, I'm in two minds whether Barclays themselves would appreciate it. Is Barclaybird at work? If so, shouldn't she be attending to that, rather than being on-line. Alternatively, perhaps it's Sneaky Barclays advertising.

If Barclay Bird is going to be of any use around here, then Barclays shouldn't appreciate it as she will hopefully be on the side of the MSE'ers she helps rather than towing the company line. It will soon become apparant if that isn't the case.

Well, it has always intrigued me to know what people who work for a bank actually think about their employer, so Barclay Bird, do you think the bank charges are fair and would you personally claim them back for yourself from Barclays or any other bank?
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH

Quite right board guide, I shouldn't have offered that. Please continue to fight Barclays for your details.

(I work for Barclays as well, but at the other end of the scale - in their collections department. I hate it, but it's a job to pay the bills until I get something else :) )

If you lose your OD facility, the collections department will call asking for an immediate payment on that facility. If not you'll get a maximum of 6 months to pay it back (but you're not supposed to know this) - if you can't do that then the OD will be sold on to an external agency.

In regards to bank charges - I don't really care about them as I've never been charged in the 14 years that I've had a bank account, so they can be £100 for all I care! :) Obviously, they are extremly high, but if people stopped DDs or didn't take cash out then they wouldn't be charged. I understand that most ODs are made up of charges but it doesn't stop the fact that people are living beyond their means. An OD is a privelage after all.

I don't bank with Barclays and wouldn't bank with them, as I know how they treat customers. I currently bank with smile whom I used to work with and would always recommend them.

We all have to have breaks, but I will no longer offer assistance whilst at work.

Ethics is an interesting word on a site like this :p

I think charges are excessive. I do think they should be reclaimed. But I would love to see someone say you charged me £35, give me £25 back, as £10 was a fair amount:eek:

    Hello Barclaybird

What happens if I apply to have my bank charges refunded, and they are, but they are only 1/3 rd of my overdraft (less in fact). I appreciate that they would probably pay the refund into my overdraft (I would welcome this!), but if they close my account (I have opened one with Nat West just in case), do they recall the overdraft immediately? I don't have any spare money, but would be able to cope if I could pay them back monthly.

Is this likely to happen? I have been with the bank for nearly 25 years.

    Thanks and best wishes

    Carol
I don't know if they will request payment of the overdraft, no decree has been made yet, but as stated above, you have six months to pay it back. And you've done the right thing having a parachute account;)
