Do any of these nieces and nephews that are now grown up buy for their aunts and uncles?

If on becoming adults and starting work they reciprocate the present buying all well and good. But I don't think it is right to keep buying for grown up children and them expecting it if they aren't buying something back. And I know it isn't about giving to receive.

I agree with you. :) We both get presents from OH's Sister and
b-i-l (OH's nephews I mentioned above, their children) the presents are labelled from all of them, I suspect the parents do the buying ;)
but thats upto them. We havn't got children so I don't know how things stand with them paying.
  • As a rule I'd probably say 18 (although a reduced present), although for most of my nieces and nephews I took it through university as well. Should any of them complain about the situation, how about suggesting that as they are now adults they would be expected to reciprocate :)

    Hi jas,

As your thread has dropped down the Old Style board I've moved it over to the

I have a nephew and two nieces - my nephew was 18 in March so my dad has stopped giving to him, however, it seemed wrong to miss him out and give his two sisters something so I have carried on. Yes he is technically an adult but he still lives at home, the only job he can find is delivering take away food in the evenings, so he isn't very well off. He's a good lad, never been in any trouble, despite not having a dad and my sister living in a really rough estate for most of his life, so I figure that as long as I can afford it and he needs it I will carry on.

Unless you have a large family and/or can't afford it, then never! It's not a rule that you have to stop giving presents when people reach a certain age. If you want to, do it. If you don't, don't.

I don't understand why people are are stating ages. We give based on whether we regularly see , what our relationship is like and level of gratitude. The same as with friends. Age is irrelevant to me.
