When to stop giving birthday presents

  • Ours is a mixture of 18 and 21 - my family 18 (still get something for 21st) DH family 21!
  • I don't have any children of my own and my brother doesn't have kids either, so my sister's 3 children are the closest thing to children that I have. They are now 17 (niece) and 15/13 (nephews). I love them to the moon and back and we have a fabulous relationship. They have "allowed" me to be their friends on facebook (a priviledge that their parents don't have, but my sis knows I will keep an eye on what they post and discreetly report back if necessary!!)

When they were little I lived round the corner and saw them all the time. I literally used to turn up at Christmas with a huge sack of presents for each of them (lots of cheap little things that took me days to wrap!!!) Now they've grown up and I've moved away, they all take turns in coming to stay with me and my OH. I admit they have me wrapped round their little fingers and I will probably never stop sending them £20 for their birthdays and giving them a little present plus £20 each at Christmas. In fact, this thread has reminded me - I must sort out the next weekends that each of them come to stay! :)
