  • I have been so pleased since I switched to Powergen that I'm waiting to see what they do before even considering switching.

British Gas would have to be 50% cheaper before I would even consider going with them.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I told British Gas and nPower even if they gave me the fuel for free I would never use them.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Also dc you have it the wrong way around, it is 17% for gas and 11% for electricity. You seem pretty determined to spread misinformation today :p

Dont blame me , blame my ears and the cold, and the fact that BG still have not given me the £160ish their website "stole" on the 11th November, only an annoying red reminder/demand for the folowing quarter which amounts to exactly what they owe me.
So My original figures were correct then. about the same as Equigas apart from the loaded first units ( a loading of £20+, therefore a "standing charge" if not in name.

I swear Five Live News said it that way round :rotfl:

    I question DC's figures.

    Porquoi???
I admit there is NO actual standing charge, what I quoted is the extra cost per quarter attributed to BG loading of the first actual units consumed, ie £24 in excess of charging ALL units at the lower rate.
The figures were taken from last quarter cash/cheque/dual fuel bill. Yes BG do charge as much as that for oldies who haven't shopped around.

They seem also to be trying to hide the high first unit charges by doing it on a daily basis in future. The problems one gets by mistrusting Monthly DD's ;)

I've done a calculation, for users using 20,500 kwh or more of gas per year and paying by direct debit, BG works out cheaper for gas (standard tariff). Otherwise Ebico is still cheaper, especially for quarterly cash/cheque & prepayment customers :) (don't forget their unit rates don't include the DD discount).

malcindebt, you can't link to pages on the BG website, when you visit it puts a random session code in your browser, if anyone else tries to use the link they simply end up at the home page. However if you follow the instructions the tariffs are easy to find.

Because you were stating 11% reduction for gas when it is 17%.

That's because it's not available on Economy 7  How bad is that?

Re my post # 12. The original post at around mid-day had the correct figures based on the posted 17% blanket reduction.
Some time later I heard someone on the radio say there were different reductions for gas and electricity, stating that the gas reduction was a stingy 11%, and then going on to criticise BG as they were actually buying it at 50% less.
This made me think that I had posted incorrect figures when in fact I had not. So I mistakenly added an EDIT to " correct" my original figures whilst leaving the original ones posted.
People's replies were based mostly on the un=edited post, as the incorrect 11% edit was added around 5pm.
