Ebico is 2.43p before Vat. One tariff only

BG prices are quoted before Vat , I paid 4.959p for first 1127kw, and 2.801p thereafter. and with this will vary as BG go down the "mobile phone" multi tariff route to confuse.

The 17% will bring the latter down to 2.4p + the £24ish quarterly "standing charge" ( first units loading) So Ebico still cheaper for moi.

EDIT the 17% cut is for leccy only according to BEEB and only 11% for gas.

Thus the ammended figures woul be nearer 2.5p a Kw

Even with this decrease in price BG are not interesting for me. I'm currently with southern electric on standard monthly DD and I pay:
Gas: 2.51p/kWh inc VAT and 11.97p (inc VAT) daily charge
Elec: 8.60p/kWh inc VAT and 14.71p (inc VAT) daily charge

I'm yet to find out what and when will be the southern elec cut price.

Taking dc`s tariffs the new charges will be 4.321 1st 1127kw and
2.441 (inc vat) there after and a £24 standing charge per year.

So comparing somebody who uses 12000 kw/year
ebico (2.55inc vat) pays £306, BG new rate from march
    £338.11.
  • will powergen follow suit?
  • Seems like good news for all here (as long as all Energy providers follow suit).

I'm in a position of completing on a House purchase on 12th Feb. The issue
for me is that the house has beem empty for 2 years and the services
    disconnected during that time.

In terms of selecting a provider for Gas & Elec, is the best strategy to select
via Tariff rates (I dont know my potential usage and dont have a history
in my old place as it was a Flat and fully electric) or is there a better strategy ?

I noticed the majority of comparison websites ask for usage stats which I dont have.

    Thanks

I must say though that however much BG go down in price I would NEVER go back to them. I only had to deal with them for a couple of months as I inherited them from former tenants so I had to sign up with them while at the same time ringing my old supplier to orchestrate a handover. And during that short period of time BG managed to get just about everything wrong, so for that appaling customer service alone they get the thumbs down from me anytime - and do we really think the service will get better if the prices go down? On the contrary, dear Watson.

Completely agree. Save yourself a lot of potential pain - and possibly money if BG end up withholding refunds of overpayments from you as they do for me and many others - and avoid BG like the plague.

Just take a look at the complaints statistics on energywatch.org.uk, they speak for themself.

I'm a bit worried because following ML's advise and using the price check on here we switched from Powergen to NPower - in fact the switch is just going through now and now Powergen have dropped thier prices. Am worrying that I have done the wrong thing now.

When we first moved here we switched from BG and they made such a muck up of it! It put me off them for life and I worked for them for 5 1/2 years and have a deferred pension with them! :rotfl:

Is anyone able to clarify exactly which BG tariffs will be affected by the price cuts?

Given the recent price rises did not affect all tariffs by the same amount or at the same time, I don't think it should be assumed the cuts will be applied equilaterally.

The reports I read said 17% for gas and 11% for electricity.
Also you are making the assumption that there will be a flat 17% and 11% across all tariffs.

    I question DC's figures.
